Field Trip Itinerary

DAY 1September 26 | Departure for Tunisia

Tonight, we’ll meet at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport at 9:30 p.m. There, we’ll meet up with the rest of the group, check our luggage, and get ready to board. We’ll take off on a direct Aegean Airlines flight to Tunis, leaving our daily routines behind for the next few days. During our transfer to the hotel, we’ll have the chance for a mini “introduction” on the go, so you can start getting a feel for the atmosphere and culture of this unique country. After checking into your room, it’s time to rest and sleep, because starting tomorrow morning, the pace picks up, and a journey full of vivid images, colors, and history awaits you.

DAY 2September 27 | Tunis – Greek Metropolis – Medina – Bardo Museum – Ancient Carthage – Hammamet

Start your day with a good breakfast, as you have a busy day ahead of you today. With our visit to the Greek Metropolis, we take a trip back in time. There, you’ll discover the history of the Greek community and the people who left their mark on Tunisia. We’ll continue on to the Medina of Tunis, with its picturesque alleys and markets offering everything from spices to handmade goods. Pick up something for yourself, something for your family, and something for that friend who’s always jealous of your travels. Next stop: the impressive Bardo Museum. Here, you’ll travel back in time through Roman mosaics and ancient treasures. And now… you’re going even further back in time. We’re heading to Carthage—yes, the one you learned about in school. This historic city, once the heart of the mighty Carthaginian Empire, takes us back to Roman times with its imposing monuments and stunning architecture. We continue on to Hammamet. Optionally, you can enjoy a massage or a hammam at the hotel. The day ends with dinner and some rest.

DAY 3September 28 | Hammamet – El Jem – Matmata – Douz

After breakfast, we set off for the enchanting southern part of Tunisia and continue on to El Jem. And when we say “El Jem,” we mean the best-preserved Colosseum of the Roman Empire! You’ll look at it and wonder if you’ve stepped onto a movie set. This is where gladiatorial battles and fierce encounters with wild beasts took place. Our next stop is Matmata, with its lunar landscape and the underground dwellings of the Berbers. We’ll stop at a Berber home, where you’ll taste the local tea and feel the warmth of local hospitality wash over you. As soon as you arrive in Douz, you’ll immediately feel the magic of the landscape. It’s the perfect place to get a taste of caravan life by taking a camel ride through the desert.

DAY 4September 29 | Douz – Chott El Jerid Salt Desert – Tozeur

We’ve already packed our things, since today we’re leaving Douz and heading toward the salt lake Chott El Jerid. As soon as you see the landscape, you’ll realize you’re in another world. The sun’s reflection on the salt flats creates an optical illusion that’s simply unbelievable. Here you’ll also find the “Wheels of the Desert,” the region’s most unique souvenir. We’ll continue on to Tozeur. In the afternoon, for those who wish, there’s the option of an optional ride in horse-drawn carriages, one of the most classic and beloved activities in Tozeur. This tour takes place within the stunning Tozeur Oasis. It’s the ideal way to explore the shady paths lined with thousands of date palms and wander among the traditional irrigation canals, in places that are inaccessible by other means. An experience that highlights the tranquility and natural beauty of the region. In the evening, after dinner, if you’d like, you can enjoy a traditional mint tea or a hookah.

DAY 5September 30 | Tozeur - Mountain Oases - Tozeur

As soon as you finish breakfast, an adventure awaits that will send your adrenaline soaring! We’ll hop in the 4×4 and head out on a safari through the mountain oases, where nature and history come together. Your first stop? Nefta, with its palm trees, narrow alleys, minarets, and traditional mausoleums. Next, you head toward Ung Zmelft, the famous “camel’s head,” where the sand dunes look like golden sculptures. Here you’ll experience the ultimate “dune bashing.” Drivers race up and down the sand dunes in their 4x4s, and your heart races like crazy—but that doesn’t mean you won’t have the time of your life. Next, you’ll head to the location where scenes from the legendary movie “Star Wars” were filmed. You’ll walk among the sets and feel like a Jedi on a mission. And before returning to Tozeur to rest, you’ll stop at the Tamerza Oasis, where a small waterfall cascades into the rocky gorge, while nearby lies the Mides Oasis, with its impressive gorge near the border with Algeria. You’ll return to the hotel for lunch, and in the afternoon, you can optionally go for a ride on a quad bike to explore the area’s landscapes.

DAY 6October 1 | Tozeur – Kairouan – Sousse – Hammamet

Today, after breakfast, we’re heading to Kairouan. A sacred, solemn, yet absolutely beautiful city. Its atmosphere reminds you that this is the fourth most important religious center of Islam. You start at the Great Mosque of Okba. You step inside and are left speechless by the stunning architecture and the sheer weight of history! It has stood there proudly since the 7th century, with its colonnades, its vast courtyard, and the energy of a bygone era. The exploration continues with the Aghlabid cisterns, a true engineering marvel of their time. We continue on to Hammamet for dinner and a rest.

DAY 7October 2 | Hammamet

Today is all about enjoying Hammamet at your own pace. After breakfast, you can lose yourself in the colorful souks, where the heart of the city beats strongly. Wander among stalls offering intricately crafted ceramics, authentic Berber jewelry, carved copper and silver objects, and stunning traditional costumes. It’s the perfect opportunity to find that special souvenir that will forever remind you of your trip. Stop by a traditional café to enjoy your tea or coffee while watching the world go by. If you’d like, you can also enjoy a rejuvenating massage at the hotel’s spa.

DAY 8October 3 | Hammamet – Tunis – Sid Abu Said

Our last day begins with a stroll through the old town in the center of Hammamet. It’s the perfect time for a quick coffee or a refreshing fresh-squeezed juice at one of the area’s traditional hangouts, while soaking up the authentic atmosphere. Next, we set off for the picturesque village of Sidi Bou Said. This enchanting village, with its white walls and vivid blue accents, is strongly reminiscent of a Cycladic island and is a paradise for every photography enthusiast. There, we’ll have time to wander through its narrow streets and relax against the backdrop of the endless blue of the Mediterranean. If we’re lucky enough to find a table, we’ll sit at the legendary Café des Nattes, where great figures from the worlds of art and literature once gathered. Try the traditional pine-nut tea (a real must-have) and let your gaze drift toward the horizon. We take in the last few sights of Sidi Bou Said, “pack up” our memories, and get ready for our farewell dinner.

DAY 9October 4 | Return to Greece

At one o'clock, we'll take our return flight to Greece. The moments you spent here—the colors, flavors, and scents—will stay with you forever, reminding you just how special this trip was. The warm hospitality and the new friends you’ve made will always remind you that Tunisia is a place where magic is a reality. Now that you’re back to your daily routine, keep these memories alive and dream of your next destination.
