Field Trip Itinerary

DAY 1December 19 | Departure for Tunisia – Bardo Museum – Hammamet

It all starts at “Eleftherios Venizelos,” where we drop off our luggage, get to know each other, and fly directly to Tunis with Aegean. Our philosophy is simple… Whether you’re traveling alone or with friends, starting today we’re all part of a group exploring a new destination together. As soon as we land, on our way to the Bardo Museum, we’ll have a brief “on-the-go” introduction so you can get your bearings before we dive into history through the impressive Roman mosaics. We’ll continue on to Hammamet, a laid-back seaside oasis, where we’ll spend the night.

DAY 2December 20 | Hammamet

Today is all about enjoying Hammamet at your own pace. After breakfast, you can lose yourself in the colorful souks, where the heart of the city beats strongly. Wander among stalls offering intricately crafted ceramics, authentic Berber jewelry, carved copper and silver objects, and stunning traditional costumes. It’s the perfect opportunity to find that special souvenir that will forever remind you of your trip. Stop by a traditional café for tea or coffee while watching the world go by. You can also opt to enjoy a rejuvenating massage at the hotel’s spa.

DAY 3December 21 | Sousse – Kairouan – Tozeur

Today, after breakfast, we’ll set off on our journey south. Our first stop is Sousse, one of Tunisia’s liveliest cities. We’ll stroll through its own medina before continuing on to Kairouan. Kairouan is a sacred and imposing city, the fourth most important religious center of Islam, and its atmosphere will instantly transport you to another era. Our first stop is the Great Mosque of Okba. It’s one of those places where you find yourself gazing at the architecture and the history it carries back to the 7th century. Its courtyard and colonnades are truly impressive. After taking in the sights, we’ll continue our journey to Tozeur, where we’ll have dinner and spend the night.

DAY 4December 22 | Tozeur - Mountain Oases - Tozeur

As soon as you finish breakfast, an adventure awaits that will send your adrenaline soaring! We’ll hop in the 4×4 and head out on a safari through the mountain oases, where nature and history come together. Your first stop? Nefta, with its palm trees, narrow alleys, minarets, and traditional mausoleums. Next, you head toward Ung Zmelft, the famous “camel’s head,” where the sand dunes look like golden sculptures. Here you’ll experience the ultimate “dune bashing.” Drivers race up and down the sand dunes in 4x4s, and your heart races like crazy—but that doesn’t mean you won’t have the time of your life. Next, you’ll head to the location where scenes from the legendary movie “Star Wars” were filmed. You’ll walk among the sets and feel like a Jedi on a mission. And before returning to Tozeur to rest, you’ll stop at the Tamerza Oasis, where a small waterfall cascades into the rocky gorge, while nearby lies the Mides Oasis, with its impressive gorge near the border with Algeria. You’ll return to the hotel for lunch, and in the afternoon, you can optionally go for a ride on a quad bike to explore the area’s landscapes.

DAY 5December 23 | Tozeur – Chott El Jerid Salt Desert – Douz

Today we’re getting ready to leave Tozeur behind, but not before exploring it as it deserves. We start the morning with a stroll through the impressive Tozeur Oasis. For anyone interested, a tour by horse-drawn carriage is the ideal way to see the shady paths lined with thousands of date palms and the traditional irrigation canals. Next, we head toward Douz, but the route reveals one of the most unique sights of the trip… The salt lake Chott El Jerid. When you see the sun’s reflection on the salty earth, you’ll feel as if you’re in another world, as it’s an optical illusion that’s hard to describe. There you’ll also find the famous “Desert Wheels” so you can take a piece of this magic home with you. We’ll end up in Douz, where, after dinner, you can relax with a traditional mint tea and a hookah.

DAY 6December 24 | Douz – Matmata – El Jem – Hammamet

After breakfast in Douz, anyone who wishes can join the optional camel ride through the sand dunes, getting a taste of caravan life in the Sahara. Next, we’ll head to Matmata, a place of otherworldly, lunar beauty. There, we’ll visit the famous underground dwellings of the Berbers, where we’ll be served local tea and get an authentic glimpse into their way of life and traditions. Our journey continues to El Jem, where the imposing Roman amphitheater stands out. It is the best-preserved Colosseum in the world, a monument that inspires awe with its architecture and history. We’ll tour the areas where gladiatorial contests once took place before heading back north. We’ll end up in Hammamet for dinner and an overnight stay, wrapping up a day full of contrasts—one that began in the desert and concluded in the heart of Roman history.

DAY 7December 25 | Ancient Carthage - Sidi Bou Said - Tunis

Today, after breakfast, we’ll leave Hammamet and head to Carthage, where the history we learned in school comes to life before our eyes. This iconic city, once the heart of a mighty empire, takes us back to the Roman era through its imposing monuments and architecture, which bear witness to the glory of the past. Our journey continues to the enchanting Sidi Bou Said. This picturesque village, with its white walls and vivid blue accents, strongly resembles a Cycladic island and is a paradise for every photography enthusiast. We’ll have time to wander through its cobblestone alleys and relax against the backdrop of the endless blue of the Mediterranean. If we’re lucky enough to find a table, we’ll sit at the legendary Café des Nattes, the hangout once frequented by great figures of the arts. Try the traditional pine-nut tea—a local must-try—and let your gaze drift off into the horizon. After capturing our final glimpses of Sidi Bou Said, we’ll head to the Medina of Tunis, the city’s old center. We’ll stroll through the narrow streets and bazaars that sell everything from spices to handmade goods. This is your chance to pick up something for yourself or for that friend who’s always asking about your travels. After our stroll, we’ll head back to the hotel for dinner and some rest.

DAY 8December 26 | Return to Greece

Today, after breakfast, we’re heading to the airport to catch our flight back to Greece. The moments you spent here—the colors, flavors, and scents—will stay with you forever, reminding you just how special this trip was. The warm hospitality and the new friends you’ve made will always remind you that Tunisia is a place where magic is a reality. Now that you’re back to your daily routine, keep these memories alive and dream of your next destination.
