Our team is heading to the workshop to present Iceland to you—a journey defined by adventure, exploration, and teamwork. Warning! Any headaches resulting from the overwhelming abundance of experiences and images are entirely the traveler’s responsibility! We depart from the airports in Athens, Thessaloniki, and Larnaca for Iceland’s capital, REYKJAVIK.
Very close to the airport lies one of the world’s best natural spas, the Blue Lagoon. It features thermal baths in some of the most modern facilities in the world. There, you’ll sip a smoothie, pamper yourself with a face mask, and enjoy the breathtaking view of the frozen landscape. Next, we’ll board the bus and head to the hotel so you can settle in. There’s no time to rest yet, because we’re going out to see how the locals have fun. You might not have known it, but Iceland has a great nightlife.
Today you’ll have time to explore Reykjavík. You’ll see colorful little houses that create a beautiful contrast with the natural landscape, as well as shops where you can pick up souvenirs for yourself and your loved ones. You can walk the streets of Reykjavik and take a look at the city’s sights. There aren’t many, but it’s worth visiting Hallgrimur Church, whose design is inspired by Iceland’s otherworldly landscapes. You can also participate in the optional whale-watching activity. The plan: We’ll head to the Old Harbor in downtown Reykjavik, where you’ll set off. The whales you can spot on the tour of Faxafloi Bay are mainly four types of whales. We would like to note here that we follow the Ice Whale Code of Conduct for responsible whale watching.
Obviously, you can’t visit Iceland without doing what we’re doing today: the Golden Circle tour. Our first stop will be the spot where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates diverge, creating a stunning gorge at Pingvellir. Iceland has waterfalls… lots of waterfalls. One of them is Gullfoss, which no one misses when visiting the country. Next is a stop at Geysir, where water shoots up from the ground in a jet. We continue to Rjupnavellir, where we’ll spend the night in a picturesque lodge. After arriving and settling in, we’ll fire up the grill for a traditional BBQ. Tonight, if we’re lucky, we might even see the Northern Lights.
We wake up in the morning amidst the snow-covered plains. Our first stop is the famous Skogafoss waterfall. We continue with one of our favorite optional activities: glacier hiking. The local guide will lead us safely across the ice. Finally, we head to Iceland’s most famous black sand beach, Reynisfjara, to see the impressive basalt columns. If you haven’t seen the Northern Lights yet, your chances of seeing them here are high!
We’ll start with a short hike to the stunning Fjardaargljufur Gorge. We’ll then drive to the glacier lagoon, Jokulsarlon, where you’ll marvel at the icebergs floating in the lagoon. Weather permitting, we’ll take a boat ride among the icebergs. Nearby is Diamond Beach, a black sand beach covered in crystal-clear pieces of ice.
Today begins with an optional activity: ice caving in an ice cave via 4×4 vehicle. Next, we visit Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you can walk behind the water, and the “hidden” Gljubrabui waterfall. Return to Reykjavik.
Today, after breakfast, we’re heading to the airport to catch our flight home. Even if you’re traveling solo, this road trip in Iceland will be an unforgettable experience.
