This tour is one of the most popular along the Dalmatian coast because it has been carefully planned so that, over the course of five days, we can see the best sights of these unique regions while still having free time to enjoy them. We start with the capital of Albania, whose development makes it a must-visit, and spend the night in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, having covered most of our journey.
A “smart” stay in the city of Trebinje, and from there a full day in the “jewel” of the Dalmatian coast, Dubrovnik. For our excursion, we’ve chosen to go to the heart of the coast, to “Marco Polo’s island,” the famous Korčula, a visit that is an absolute must on this itinerary. An exclusive visit to a natural wonder, the Kravica Waterfalls—a favorite summer pastime for locals—and medieval Mostar.
Our stay in the city of Trebinje, the “city of the Sun and the plane trees,” an ideal starting point for this itinerary, a particularly picturesque city that is not only affordable but also very beautiful. The hotel is a simple 4-star property, by local standards, located in an area from which you can take a lovely stroll through the city, to the Arslanagić Stone Bridge, and to the “River of Mills”—the famous Trebisnica—which flows through the heart of the city. We depart early in the morning and, traveling along the Egnatia Highway, pass through Veroia, Kozani, and Kastoria on our way to Krystallopigi. After clearing border formalities and passing along the shores of Lake Ohrid with its crystal-clear waters and rich wildlife, we continue through Pogradec to the Albanian capital, Tirana, where we arrive in the late afternoon. We will tour the historic city center, featuring the unique Orthodox Church of the Resurrection, the Parliament building, Albania’s oldest mosque, the impressive central square with the equestrian statue of George Kastrioti, the presidential palace, and the university building. Continuing on, we head toward the unique Montenegro. Arrival in Podgorica in the late afternoon and check-in at the hotel. Free time and overnight stay.
We’ll enjoy a hearty breakfast at the hotel and then head to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the town of Trebinje. We’ll drop our bags off at the hotel and have time to explore this picturesque town. After lunch, we’ll head to Dubrovnik, where we’ll spend the rest of the day. We’ll take a wonderful afternoon tour of the old town and have time to see the “Pearl of the Adriatic” at night as well. More specifically, in the Old Town, which is surrounded by 10th-century walls, we’ll walk through the locations where scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed. In the historic city center, we’ll see the Franciscan Monastery, the Rectors’ Palace, the Cathedral, the old port, and the Church of St. Blaise. At the end of the tour, we recommend a mini-cruise in the city’s bay to view the walls from the sea and sail around Lokrum Island. You can also take the cable car to the top of Srdj. Return to the hotel in the evening.
After breakfast, enjoy a stroll through Trebinje or join us on an optional summer excursion to the island of Korčula, an ancient Greek colony. After a fantastic drive along the Dalmatian coast, we arrive at the Pelješac Peninsula, where we’ll stop in Ston, whose walls have been dubbed the “Great Wall of Croatia.” We then arrive in Orebic, from where we’ll take a small boat to Korčula, the island that claims to be the birthplace of Marco Polo. We will visit the imposing Cathedral of St. Mark as well as the Marco Polo House Museum. Free time to swim in the crystal-clear waters or stroll through the narrow streets. On our way back, we’ll stop in Dubrovnik for some free time to take another walk through the old town. We’ll return to our hotel in the late afternoon.
Breakfast and departure for a day trip to two wonderful locations. Our first stop is medieval Mostar. The city’s landmark is the largest arched bridge, built by order of Suleiman the Magnificent. We’ll wander through the city’s narrow streets, the bazaars, and the banks of the Neretva River. We’ll continue on to a unique natural landscape: the famous Kravice Waterfalls. The waters of the Trebižat River plunge from a height of 25 meters and flow into the lake, an ideal spot for swimming. Late in the afternoon, we return to our hotel.
Today is our last day in this picturesque town. After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll head back. We’ll pass by the shores of Lake Ohrid and, via Pogradec, head toward the Krystalopigi border crossing to return to our city in the evening.
