Meet at “Macedonia” Airport and take a direct flight to the enchanting city of Budapest. Arrival in the Hungarian capital and meeting with our experienced guide, who will introduce us right from the start to the secrets, history, and daily life of the famous “Queen of the Danube.” We’ll begin our first exploration of the city at the impressive Heroes’ Square, one of Budapest’s most significant squares. In the center stands the imposing Millennium Monument, dedicated to the most important rulers and figures who shaped the history of Hungary. On either side of the square stand the Museum of Fine Arts and the Art Gallery, creating one of the city’s most distinctive architectural ensembles. We continue along the famous Andrássy út, Budapest’s elegant boulevard, which, together with its historic surroundings, is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Among the elegant mansions and luxurious facades, we’ll spot the imposing Hungarian State Opera House, one of the city’s architectural gems. We’ll have time for a first stroll and a meal in the festively decorated city center, where Budapest is at its most atmospheric this time of year. In the evening, we recommend experiencing one of the most beautiful moments of the trip: a night cruise on the Danube. From the river, Budapest reveals perhaps its most striking view. The illuminated Parliament Building, Buda Castle, the historic bridges, and the grand buildings on both banks are reflected in the water, creating a unique setting. With a glass of sparkling wine in hand, we enjoy the city from the best possible vantage point.
After breakfast, we continue our tour of Budapest, this time heading to the historic Buda side of the city. We’ll climb Castle Hill, where the political and royal heart of Hungary beat for centuries. We’ll explore the area around the imposing Buda Castle, the former royal residence that today stands as one of the capital’s most significant historic complexes and houses, among other things, the Hungarian National Gallery. We continue on to the fairytale-like Fishermen’s Bastion, with its characteristic white towers and Neo-Romanesque battlements. From here, the view is truly unique: the Danube, the bridges, and the imposing Parliament building across the river make up perhaps the most photographed panorama in Budapest. Next to it stands the historic Matthias Church, one of the country’s most important churches, closely linked to Hungary’s monarchical history. During our tour, we’ll also enjoy views of the famous bridges connecting Buda and Pest, with the Chain Bridge standing out as one of the city’s timeless symbols.
A Festive Afternoon at City Park
Next, we’ll head to a completely different part of the city, the famous Városliget—Budapest City Park, a vast space dedicated to greenery, culture, and recreation. Here stands Vajdahunyad Castle, one of Budapest’s most distinctive architectural creations. It was originally built for the 1896 Millennium celebrations and combines various architectural styles from Hungarian history, from Romanesque and Gothic to Renaissance and Baroque. And here begins the more relaxed part of the day. Everyone can choose the experience that suits them best:
City Park Ice Rink: the large lake in front of Vajdahunyad is transformed in winter into one of Europe’s most impressive outdoor ice rinks. With the illuminated castle in the background, the setting is truly Christmassy.
Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden: one of Europe’s most historic zoos and an ideal choice, especially for families.
Szechenyi Baths: one of Budapest’s most famous attractions. Indoor and outdoor heated pools, saunas, and thermal waters create a unique experience, especially in the winter. The baths will also be open during the 2026–27 holiday season, with special hours.
You can stay as long as you like and make your own way back to the city center or your hotel—after all, it’s only a 10–15-minute walk.
Today you can spend the day soaking up the city’s festive atmosphere or join us on an optional excursion to the famous villages along the Danube on one of the most beautiful routes inHungary, along the famous Danube Bend. A day filled with small historic towns, castles, traditional architecture, and unique landscapes.
Szentendre
Our first stop is the picturesque town of Szentendre, just a few kilometers north of Budapest. A small, charming town with colorful houses, cobblestone alleys, small squares, and a vibrant artistic atmosphere. The settlement of Serbian and other Balkan populations has left a strong imprint on its history and architecture, giving it a unique character that sets it apart from Budapest. We’ll have time to stroll through the picturesque alleys, discover small shops selling handmade items, and sample the famous Hungarian marzipan.
Visegrád
We continue on to historic Visegrád, whose name means “High Castle.” The town was an important royal center during the Middle Ages and is linked to significant moments in Central European history. High above the Danube stands its medieval fortress, from which one can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the river’s famous bend.
Esztergom
Our next stop is historic Esztergom, Hungary’s first capital and, to this day, one of the country’s most important religious centers. Here stands the impressive Esztergom Basilica, Hungary’s largest church, towering majestically over the Danube. From the area around the cathedral, the view of the river and the Mária Valéria Bridge, which connects Hungary with Slovakia, is truly breathtaking. After our tour is complete, we’ll head back to Budapest.
In the evening, join us (optional) for one of the highlights of the trip: a unique dinner at a traditional Hungarian tavern. Flavors of local cuisine, the famous spicy goulash, music, and the characteristic Gypsy fiddles create an authentic Hungarian evening and a wonderful way to round out our eventful day.
After breakfast, we’ll have plenty of time for our final strolls around Budapest. It’s a chance to revisit our favorite spots, do some last-minute shopping, or simply enjoy a coffee and take in the city without a set plan. You can wander through the festive markets for some last-minute souvenirs and gifts or visit the famous Central Market Hall — Nagy Vásárcsarnok, where you’ll find traditional products, Hungarian paprika, salamis, sweets, and many other local specialties. For history buffs, there’s the House of Terror, which chronicles dramatic periods of modern Hungarian history, while art lovers can visit the Museum of Fine Arts or the Hungarian National Museum. If, on the other hand, you prefer something more laid-back, you can sit down at one of the city’s historic cafés and try a slice of Dobos torte or a warm kürtőskalács. The famous New York Café, with its impressive interior décor, is a unique experience in itself. And for your final farewell to Budapest, it’s worth taking one more stroll along the banks of the Danube. The Parliament Building, the bridges, Buda on the opposite bank, and the river come together to form the image by which we want to remember the “Queen of the Danube.” Next, transfer to the airport and return flight, with suitcases full of gifts and hearts full of festive memories.
