Thessaloniki "Macedonia" Airport (Google Maps)
We’ll meet at “Macedonia” Airport around noon and board the Wizz Air flight to the Hungarian capital. Upon arrival, we’ll meet our tour guide and, without wasting any time, begin exploring the city. We’ll head toward the city center, beginning our tour at the monumental Heroes’ Square with the Millennium Monument, where we’ll learn about the country’s history. Next, we’ll visit St. Stephen’s Basilica, Republic Avenue with the Opera House and its well-preserved buildings, the imposing Baroque Parliament Building, and the bridges connecting Buda and Pest. For your first night in Budapest, we recommend a nighttime cruise on the Danube so you can admire the sights under the city lights, with the majestic Parliament building towering above.
We’ll enjoy a good breakfast at the hotel and get ready for the second day of our trip, exploring the capital. We’ll head to Buda, where we’ll admire the Castle, the Statue of Liberty, the National Gallery, the Fishermen’s Bastion, and the historic Matthias Church (where Hungarian kings were crowned). We’ll end up at the famous Gellért Hill, where we’ll enjoy a panoramic view of Buda and Pest with the Danube. Then we’ll head to another unique spot, the famous Budapest City Park (Városliget), a huge park near the city center. We’ll pass through Heroes’ Square and see Vajdahunyad Castle, one of the 10 most impressive castles in Europe! Built in 1896, it showcases the country’s architectural evolution over the centuries. It hosts various festivals, concerts, and exhibitions and is listed among Europe’s Top 10 winter destinations according to Lonely Planet. Afterward, you can enjoy one of the following attractions located in City Park and return to the hotel on your own at any time you wish.
Budapest Zoo It’s rare to find a zoo in the center of a city, but here it’s a reality. It’s the oldest zoo in Hungary and one of the oldest in the world, home to 1,072 species.
Széchenyi Budapest Spa You’ve probably heard that when in Budapest, you have to visit a spa! Well, this is the largest medical spa in Europe, featuring 18 indoor heated pools, steam rooms, saunas, and a large outdoor pool for the more adventurous. Its water is supplied by two thermal springs, with temperatures of 74 and 77 °C.
The third day of the tour is yours to spend as you wish, or you can join us on an optional excursion to the Hungarian countryside. There are many beautiful places outside of Budapest as well. The most famous excursion is today’s trip to Hungary’s renowned villages along the Danube. On the beautiful route along the Danube, we’ll first stop at the picturesque village of St. Andrew (Szentendre), home to many famous artists. We’ll continue on to Visegrád, the birthplace of Charlemagne. Next is the first capital of Hungary, Esztergom, with its massive cathedral, home to the Hungarian religious treasury. At noon, we return to Budapest. In the evening, join us (optional) for one of the highlights of the trip: a unique dinner at a traditional Hungarian tavern, where spicy goulash and Gypsy fiddles will enchant you.
It’s the last day of the trip, and after breakfast at the hotel, we’ll have some free time on the main pedestrian street, Vaci Utca, to do some souvenir shopping and take one last stroll through the city. We’ll then be transferred to the airport for our return flight, filled with unforgettable memories, wonderful photos, and lots of smiles from this magical trip.
