Meet at “Macedonia” Airport at 6:00 a.m. and depart on a direct flight to Frankfurt. Arrival in Europe’s “financial capital.” Although today it is widely known as the headquarters of the European Central Bank, Frankfurt is linked in the hearts of Germans to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. We will visit the city center to begin our tour. This old imperial city on the River Main has long been an important commercial and economic center. We will explore its history and its most significant landmarks, such as the historic Römerberg district and the Römer (Old Town Hall). Of particular importance are the elegant Imperial Hall (Kaisersaal), the New City Hall (Neues Rathaus), the Gothic Church of St. Leonhard, and the Church of St. Nicholas. Finally, we will visit the bridge over the Main River with its Homeric inscription. We will then depart for the fairytale region of Heidelberg. We will walk through its historic center, along Hauptstrasse, and admire the Church of the Holy Spirit, the “student prison,” the “witches’ tower,” and the Old Bridge (Altebrücke). The Castle dominates the hill, offering the best view of the city. Check-in at the hotel and free time.
Breakfast at our hotel, then we set out to explore the most beautiful section of the Romantic Road. Our first stop is the enchanting city of Würzburg. We begin our tour at the impressive square in front of the Residenz Palace (UNESCO). We continue to St. Kilian’s Cathedral and end up at the iconic Alte Mainbrücke bridge, enjoying a “Brückenschoppen” (local wine) with a view of Marienberg Fortress. Then we depart and arrive in the unique town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. We’ll have the chance to see the city walls, the Hospital Church, City Hall, and the cathedral. Free time in the town’s picturesque streets. Return to our hotel in Heidelberg.
Breakfast and departure for the unique city of Strasbourg. The historic center, known as "Petite France" (Little France), is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will walk through the old town, dominated by the Cathedral of Our Lady, the astronomical clock, the Roen Tower, and the Kammerzell House. Free time at noon and check-in at the hotel. In the afternoon, we recommend a cruise on the Ill River, passing through the historic center, the covered bridges, and the German quarter all the way to the European Parliament buildings.
Today we’re taking a trip to the famous wine villages of Alsace. Our first stop is Riquewihr, a medieval village nestled among Riesling vineyards. We continue to Colmar, the wine capital, with its pastel-colored houses lining the canals. Our final destination is Eguisheim, built in concentric circles around its castle. We’ll admire the central square, the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, and the stork nests on the rooftops. Late in the afternoon, we return to Strasbourg.
Free day or optional excursion to the Black Forest. Our first stop is Triberg, home to Germany’s highest waterfalls and traditional cuckoo clocks. We continue on to the picturesque Lake Titisee. Next is Freiburg, the sunny university town. We will see the Gothic Cathedral, the historic department store (Kaufhaus), and the Town Hall Square. Return to Strasbourg.
Departure for Baden-Baden, the famous spa town with its historic casino and Roman baths. We then head to Stuttgart for a brief tour of this city of contrasts, with its majestic palaces and technological innovation. Transfer to the airport for the return flight.
