Field Trip Itinerary

DAY 1FLIGHT TO ROME - CITY TOUR - WALKING TOUR - TREVI FOUNTAIN - SPANISH STEP - PIAZZA NAVONA - ROME BY NIGHT

Meet at “Macedonia” Airport at 7:25 a.m., go through security, and board the flight to the Eternal City. As soon as we arrive, our guide will be waiting to help us board the bus and head into the city, providing us with the first essential information. Without wasting any time, we’ll begin our walking tour at the famous Trevi Fountain, where we can toss a coin and make a wish—which, according to tradition, will bring us back to Rome. Nearby is the famous Spanish Steps (Piazza di Spagna), where the renowned fashion shows take place. Next is one of Rome’s most impressive and charming sights, the Pantheon, a 2,000-year-old temple dedicated to all the gods. It is so well-preserved that it is still considered one of the most important architectural works of the Western world.

Next, we’ll see the Palazzo Montecitorio, home to the Italian Parliament, and pass by the original Column of Hadrian. Next, we will visit Piazza Navona, one of Rome’s most beautiful and charming squares, filled with restaurants and street artists. In this square, which served as a venue for athletic events during the 1st century AD, we will admire the three fountains, the most impressive being Bernini’s famous Fountain of the Four Rivers, where each statue represents a major river from a different continent. In this stunning square, next to the impressive fountains and majestic buildings, we recommend you have lunch and enjoy an authentic Italian coffee. Now it’s time to head to the hotel and settle into our rooms.

As the afternoon light begins to fade, we invite you to join an optional evening tour to discover the authentic side of the Italian capital. Starting from Piazza Navona, which is filled with restaurants and street artists, we’ll admire the three fountains, the most impressive being Bernini’s famous Fountain of the Four Rivers, of the Four Rivers, with each statue representing a river from a different continent. Next, we’ll pass through the Campo de’ Fiori district, which will captivate you with its liveliness, vibrant colors, and picturesque alleyways. After crossing the Tiber, we’ll arrive at the Church of Santa Maria, in the heart of the Trastevere district, one of Rome’s most picturesque and cosmopolitan neighborhoods. Here, we recommend enjoying an authentic Italian dinner or having a drink along the riverbank. The time is all yours; you can return on your own whenever you like—after all, your hotel is right in the heart of the city.

DAY 2VATICAN MUSEUMS - ST. PETER'S BASILICA - CASTEL SAN ANGELO - PIAZZA DEL POPOLO

Rome is a city that’s hard to see in just one or two days. So, after breakfast at the hotel, we’ll continue our exploration with an optional visit to the independent state of Vatican City, the world’s smallest country and the spiritual seat of the Roman Catholic Church. We begin with the impressive Vatican Museums, one of the most significant museum complexes in the world. During our tour, we will explore impressive halls and galleries, such as the Corridor of the Candelabra, the Corridor of the Tapestries, and the Corridor of the Maps, while also admiring the Raphael Rooms. Our tour culminates in the incomparable Sistine Chapel, with Michelangelo’s world-famous frescoes, among which “The Creation of Adam” stands out.

Immediately afterward, we visit the majestic St. Peter’s Basilica, the largest in Christendom, built over the tomb of the Apostle Peter. Its architecture, monumental works of art, and of course Michelangelo’s Pietà make for a truly breathtaking experience. This is followed by free time in the historic center, where you can visit Piazza del Popolo, as well as the impressive Castel Sant’Angelo (Castle of the Angels). This iconic fortress, originally the mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian, was converted over the years into a papal stronghold. At its summit stands the statue of the Archangel Michael, who—according to legend—appeared in the year 590 and put an end to a deadly plague epidemic.

DAY 3ROME - COLOSSEUM - ROMAN FORUM - PIAZZA VENEZIA - TIVOLI

The third day of our trip to Italy is dawning, but we’re getting ready for another tour of the historic center of the Eternal City. Starting with the famous Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheater, which is one of the most iconic monuments of ancient Rome. It was built in the 1st century AD and is the largest amphitheater ever constructed. It was used for gladiatorial combat, theatrical performances, and other public events. Today, the Colosseum is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world. Next, we’ll head to the Roman Forum, also known as the Forum, which was the center of political, commercial, and social life in ancient Rome. It consisted of a series of public squares, temples, and administrative buildings.

Our final stop is Piazza Venezia, one of Rome’s central squares, considered the geographical center of the city. The square is dominated by the Monument to Victor Emmanuel II, also known as the Vittoriano, which was built in honor of the first king of unified Italy. The square is also known for the Palazzo Venezia, a Renaissance palace that now houses a national museum. In the afternoon, you are free to continue exploring Rome on your own. For those who choose to do so, there is the option to join an optional excursion to the enchanting Tivoli, a lush green area just outside Rome. There we will visit Villa d’Este, with its famous gardens and 100 fountains, a prime example of 16th-century Renaissance architecture. Next, we will head to Villa Adriana, the country residence of Emperor Hadrian (2nd century AD), an open-air architectural museum.

DAY 4ROME - TOUR (BAROQUE ART IN ROME) - RETURN FLIGHT

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll make the most of our time for one last stroll through the heart of Rome. Today is dedicated to the art of the Baroque, which originated in Rome, and whose greatest exponents are considered to be Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini. The two worked together on St. Peter’s Basilica and the Barberini Palace, but competition would soon turn them into rivals. In this tour, we’ll follow in their footsteps on a leisurely route, where we’ll admire their most important works, such as the Fountain of the Bees, the Fountain of Triton, the Palazzo Barberini, as well as churches like San Ignazio, Santa Maria sopra Minerva, San Agostino, San Luigi dei Francesi, San Agnese, and Santa Maria della Vittoria.

Afterward, we’ll have some free time for a final stroll through the Eternal City—an opportunity to wander through the picturesque alleys and enjoy an authentic Italian coffee in a historic square. Those who wish can make one last stop for shopping. Finally, we’ll board the bus bound for the airport and our return flight.
