Field Trip Itinerary

DAY 1Flight to Geneva - City tour

We’ll meet at Makedonia Airport at 8:30 a.m. and take a direct flight to Geneva. Upon arrival, we’ll make the most of our time by exploring the city right away. We’ll visit the 13th-century Gothic church, Fraumünster with its famous stained-glass windows, St. Peter’s Church with the largest clock face in Europe, City Hall, the Opera House, and the modern Le Corbusier building, an environmental protection center. We will continue our tour at the European headquarters of the United Nations and numerous other international organizations, birthplace of the International Red Cross, through the numerous parks along the left bank of Lake Geneva, with views of the harbor and the impressive buildings on the lake’s north shore. At the entrance, we are greeted by the Flower Clock, made of countless flowers, which celebrates Switzerland’s long-standing tradition of watchmaking. We end up at the massive Jet d’Eau fountaina symbol of the city—which shoots water three times higher than the Statue of Liberty. Perched even higher, higher up, on the left bank of the Rhône, lies the Old Town of Geneva, with St. Peter’s Cathedral—which took seventy years to complete—as well as City Hall, where the First Geneva Convention was signed. Free time in a magnificent setting next to Lake Geneva with its sailboats, with the Rhône River dividing the city in two against the backdrop of the Alps. Stroll through the narrow, winding streets, home to wonderful antique shops, countless galleries, and some of the city’s most traditional bistros. Check-in at the hotel. Overnight stay.

DAY 2Geneva – Lausanne – Lake Geneva Riviera – Montreux – Vevey – Annecy

Breakfast and departure for beautiful Lausanne. A particularly representative example of Swiss beauty, with countless attractions and a peaceful atmosphere set against the backdrop of the Alps. It is the capital of the canton of Vaud, one of Switzerland’s 26 cantons, as the country’s administrative divisions are called. We will visit Ouchy with its 19th- and 20th-century hotels and stop at the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee. Using the metro, we’ll head up to the Old Town of Lausanne, where we’ll have the chance to see one of the most important sights, the Notre Dame Cathedral, which is visible from almost everywhere. Built in the 12th century, it is particularly imposing, and if you climb its tower, the view is breathtaking. We continue our day at Lake Geneva, or “Lemans Riviera, the second-largest freshwater lake in Central Europe. One of Switzerland’s most stunning natural attractions, it is the country’s largest water system. Famous people who have visited or lived here include Mary and Percy Shelley, as well as Lord Byron, who wrote ghost stories, one of which became the basis for the novel Frankenstein. Vladimir Lenin stayed in a chalet, and actor Charlie Chaplin spent his final years and died in Vevey. Legendary singer Phil Collins lives in a house overlooking the lake. The recording studio in Montreux belonged to the band Queen. There you’ll also find the famous statue of Freddie Mercury, who also had a home in Montreux. And we’ll end up in Montreux, a particularly popular resort among the international jet set. The city’s most significant attraction is Chillon Castle, built on a rock in the middle of the lake. Today, the monument welcomes more than 300,000 visitors a year and offers significant insight into feudal architecture. The next stop is the unique town of Annecy, located in eastern France, which boasts a long history dating back to the 10th century. The medieval town is built around the old castle of Lord Annecy, which still dominates its center. Today, it is one of the most popular Alpine destinations, nicknamed the “Venice of France.” Free time to enjoy your lunch and admire historical landmarks such as the Château d’Annecy. Afterward, return to the hotel in Geneva.

DAY 3Geneva – Bern – Lucerne – Zurich

We enjoy a hearty breakfast at the hotel, leave Geneva behind, and without wasting any time, we take an idyllic lakeside road to reach Switzerland’s federal capital, Bern. Built on a steep bend of the Aare River against the backdrop of the majestic Alps, it serves as the administrative center of Switzerland. Bern’s historic medieval old town has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. Starting our tour at Bärenplatz, we pass through Bundesplatz, where the dominant building is the Bundeshaus, the imposing Federal Parliament building, and continue toward the imposing Cathedral, where we see the Kieferturm Tower and the main street, Marktstraße. Finally, we see the Tower with its famous astronomical clock and the Niedergbrücke bridge over the Aare River, with the Bear Park. Next, we set off for yet another experience in the Swiss Alpine landscape. After a breathtaking drive through the mountains, we arrive in Lucerne, on the shores of the lake of the same name. We will tour the old town with its colorful house facades, where we will see the covered chapel bridge from the 14th century, City Hall, St. Peter’s Church, the main square, the medieval wine market, the famous Franciscan and Jesuit churches, the Hofkirche, and of course the cobblestone historic center. Departure for Zurich and check-in at our hotel. Overnight stay.

DAY 4Zurich – City Tour – Basel

Today we’ll start our day by exploring this city in northern Switzerland, where the Limmat River runs right through the middle. We’ll head to the area around the train station, where our tour begins. We’ll see the impressive City Hall, the guild houses, St. Peter’s Church, Grossmünster Cathedral, the 13th-century Fraumünster Church with its stained-glass windows by Marc Chagall, the Opera House, and we’ll end up at the lake of the same name. At noon, you can join us on a beautiful optional excursion to the unique city of Basel, located at the point known as the “Tripoint.” Our tour begins with a panoramic route where three countries meet: Switzerland, France, and Germany. Our first stop is the Old Town, full of cobblestone streets and Renaissance buildings. Basel Cathedral stands out, with its twin towers and distinctive red stone. We continue with a stroll along the banks of the Rhine, walking to the city’s oldest bridge (Mittlere Brücke). We head toward the central Marktplatz square, dominated by the impressive City Hall. For the evening, we recommend a stroll down the city’s main shopping street, Bahnhofstraße.

DAY 5Zurich – Chur – Alpine train route – St. Moritz – Principality of Liechtenstein – Vaduz

It’s the fourth day of our trip; we’ve seen so many beautiful places, but the best is yet to come! Enjoy your day in Zurich, or join us on a wonderful optional full-day excursion. Through a lush green route, we arrive in Chur, where we board the traditional Alpine train, heading to the world-famous St. Moritz ski resort, built at an altitude of 1,580 meters. The route winds through forests, lakes, and glaciers. St. Moritz rightly bears the name “top of the world, thanks to the magnificent Alpine scenery that surrounds it. Free time for a stroll through the city and shopping at the luxury boutiques. Then we depart for the Principality of Liechtenstein, the 6th smallest country in the world. We will visit the capital, Vaduz, built in a beautiful valley along the Rhine, with its famous castle as a landmark. We will take a short tour of the city center and then have free time. Return to our hotel.

DAY 6Zurich – Rhine Falls – Stein am Rhein – Return flight

On this trip, every day is better than the last! After breakfast, we’ll head to the famous Rhine Falls (Reinfall), the largest waterfalls in Europe! We’ll continue our day in the medieval village of Stein am Rhein, which the Swiss call the “Rothenburg of Switzerland.” Its historic center is a living tableau, with the town’s history painted onto its medieval buildings. In its central square, Rathausplatz, the Town Hall building steals the show, while the townhouses are hand-painted, such as the House of the Sun or the House of the Red Ox. And here our journey comes to an end, with a transfer to Zurich Airport for our return on the afternoon direct flight with Swiss Airlines.
