Field Trip Itinerary

DAY 1FLIGHT: MILAN – LAKE COMO – MILAN – CITY TOUR

We’ll meet at “MAKEDONIA” Airport in the morning and depart on a direct Aegean Airlines flight to Milan. Upon arrival, we’ll head to the enchanting Lake Como. Lake Como is located on the Italian-Swiss border in northern Italy, at the southwestern end of the lake of the same name, and is surrounded by lush green hills and impressive mountain peaks, creating a natural landscape of unique beauty. Our tour begins at the city’s lakeside park, where we’ll admire the Volta Museum, built in the neoclassical style, the striking “Life Electric” sculpture, and the majestic Villa Olmo. We’ll then head to the historic center, where the numerous cafés, elegant shops, and the city’s unique atmosphere will captivate you from the very first moment. Piazza del Duomo is dominated by the imposing Como Cathedral, one of the city’s most important landmarks. The cathedral combines elements of Gothic and Renaissance architecture, making it one of the most beautiful religious monuments in northern Italy. Next to it stands the historic Broletto (Old Town Hall), which hosted the city’s public assemblies during the Middle Ages. Our walk continues toward Piazza San Fedele and the 12th-century Romanesque basilica of the same name, and you’ll have time to wander through the picturesque alleys of the historic center and enjoy the city’s unique atmosphere. We’ll then board the bus and depart for cosmopolitan Milan, the city of fashion, design, and entrepreneurship. A modern metropolis that harmoniously blends its glorious past with its dynamic future, impressing visitors with its cutting-edge skyscrapers and the “green” architectural creations of the new city. The capital of Lombardy and Italy’s second-largest city after Rome, Milan boasts a rich history and a remarkable cultural heritage. During our tour, we’ll explore its most important sights, such as the Sforza Castle, the imposing Cathedral (Duomo), the famous Vittorio Emanuele II Gallery, and the legendary La Scala Opera House. The industrial and economic heart of Italy captivates every visitor with its vibrancy, while the Navigli district, Milan’s “Little Venice,” is a hotspot for nightlife and local cuisine. On the bustling Corso Vittorio Emanuele pedestrian street, you’ll find countless shops and department stores for your shopping. For those who wish to enjoy a unique view of Milan Cathedral, we recommend the Rooftop Garden of the Rinascente department store, with its elegant restaurants and bars. Late in the afternoon, we’ll head back to our hotel. Check-in and overnight stay.

DAY 2MILAN - FLORENCE - LUCCA

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for the unique city of Florence, the capital of Tuscany and the birthplace of the Renaissance. A jewel of a city, where art, history, and architecture coexist harmoniously, creating a veritable open-air museum that enchants every visitor. During our tour, we’ll explore the city’s most important monuments and attractions. We’ll start at Piazza San Giovanni, home to the famous Baptistery of St. John and the imposing Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, with Brunelleschi’s iconic dome, a symbol of Florence and a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. We continue on to Piazza della Signoria, the historical and political heart of the city, where we’ll admire the famous Fountain of Neptune, as well as a replica of Michelangelo’s famous David. Dominating the same square is the Palazzo Vecchio, the city’s historic town hall, while the neighboring Loggia dei Lanzi displays magnificent Renaissance sculptures. Our tour continues to the famous Uffizi Gallery (exterior visit), one of the world’s most important art museums, and then to the renowned Ponte Vecchio, the iconic bridge of Florence, adorned for centuries by historic goldsmiths and jewelry shops. We’ll end up at Piazza della Repubblica, one of the city’s liveliest and most central squares, featuring the distinctive Arcone arch and the historic Gilli and Paszkowski cafés, which have been landmarks of Florentine social life for decades. Afterward, you’ll have free time to enjoy Florence at your own pace. You can visit the traditional San Lorenzo market for shopping and local products, or tour the imposing Palazzo Pitti, the luxurious residence of the Medici family and one of Italy’s most important Renaissance palaces. In the afternoon, we depart for charming Lucca, one of Tuscany’s best-preserved medieval towns. Arrival and check-in at our hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax or explore the city for the first time. It’s worth taking advantage of the hotel’s prime location to enjoy an evening stroll through the historic center of Lucca. Wander through the picturesque cobblestone streets, discover the illuminated squares, and savor the peaceful atmosphere of a city that has preserved its authentic medieval character. As night falls, Lucca reveals its most romantic and atmospheric side. The illuminated walls, historic churches, and small squares create a setting that seems untouched by time, offering you an unforgettable first evening in the heart of Tuscany.

DAY 3LUCCA - PISA - SIENA - ROME

Breakfast at the hotel, then departure for our tour of medieval Lucca, one of Italy’s most charming and well-preserved historic cities. Originally built by the Etruscans and surrounded by imposing 16th-century Renaissance walls, which remain intact to this day, the city retains the unspoiled charm of a bygone era. During our tour, we will explore its most important sights, such as Piazza San Michele with its church of the same name—one of the most characteristic examples of Romanesque architecture in Tuscany— the imposing Cathedral of St. Martin, the historic Palazzo della Provincia, and the famous Teatro del Giglio, the city’s most important theater. Our stroll continues through the picturesque alleys of the old town, passing through Piazza Mercato, until we reach the impressive Piazza dell’Anfiteatro. This unique elliptical square, built on the ruins of an ancient Roman amphitheater, is Lucca’s most iconic landmark. Here you’ll have free time to enjoy an authentic Italian espresso or a traditional meal at one of the square’s picturesque restaurants, while soaking up the city’s unique atmosphere. We then depart for historic Pisa, one of Italy’s most famous cities, which is synonymous with the world-famous Leaning Tower. During our visit to the famous Field of Miracles (Piazza dei Miracoli), we’ll admire up close the iconic tower, the impressive Baptistery, the majestic Cathedral, and the monumental Campo Santo cemetery. This unique complex of monuments is one of the most significant masterpieces of medieval architecture and ranks among Italy’s most important attractions. Next is the beautiful city of Siena, one of Europe’s most authentic medieval cities and undoubtedly one of Tuscany’s gems. Built on three hills and divided into the famous seventeen “Contrade” (neighborhoods), each of which bears the name and emblem of an animal or symbol, Siena has preserved its unique character and traditions to this day. The city seems to have remained untouched by time, with its medieval buildings, narrow streets, and imposing squares creating a unique atmosphere. In its historic center, we’ll have free time to stroll, have a coffee or lunch, and enjoy the unique ambiance offered by one of Italy’s most beautiful cities. In the afternoon, we’ll depart for Rome, the famous “Eternal City.” We’ll arrive at our hotel, check into our rooms, and spend the night. A day filled with images of authentic Tuscany comes to a close, leaving us with the best impressions before we experience the grandeur of the Italian capital firsthand.

DAY 4ROME - CITY TOUR - WALKING TOUR - TREVI FOUNTAIN - SPANISH STEPPES - PIAZZA NAVONA - VATICAN MUSEUMS - ST. PETER'S BASILICA

Breakfast at the hotel, then we set out on our tour of the heart of the Eternal City. Rome is not just a capital city; it is an open-air museum, where every street, every square, and every monument tells a story spanning more than two thousand years. Today’s walking tour begins at the legendary Trevi Fountain, perhaps the most famous fountain in the world and one of Rome’s most beloved symbols. This impressive Baroque masterpiece, with its mythological figures and ceaselessly gushing waters, is a must-see for every visitor to the city. According to tradition, tossing a coin into the fountain with your back turned to it ensures a return to Rome. We continue on to the famous Piazza di Spagna and the Spanish Steps, one of the most cosmopolitan spots in the Italian capital. At the foot of the steps stands the Fontana della Barcaccia, a work by Bernini, while at the top stands the church of Trinità dei Monti, offering one of the city’s most iconic views. Our route then takes us to the imposing Pantheon, one of the most important monuments of ancient Rome and perhaps the best-preserved structure from Roman antiquity. Its impressive dome, with the famous oculus at its center, is still considered an architectural marvel even today. Inside, among other things, are the tomb of the great painter Raphael and the tombs of the first kings of unified Italy. During our tour, we’ll also pass by the Palazzo Montecitorio, the seat of the Italian Parliament, as well as historic monuments and squares that make up Rome’s unique mosaic. Our next stop is the beautiful Piazza Navona, one of the city’s most atmospheric and lively squares. Built on the ruins of the ancient Stadium of Domitian, it is a masterpiece of Baroque urban design. Here we’ll admire the famous Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers), a work by Bernini, where the four figures symbolize the great rivers of the continents known at the time: the Danube, the Nile, the Ganges, and the Río de la Plata. In this atmospheric square, filled with street performers, outdoor cafés, and quintessential Roman vibrancy, you’ll have time for lunch or an authentic Italian coffee while soaking up the city’s energy. For those interested, the afternoon features an optional guided tour of the Vatican, the world’s smallest independent state and, at the same time, one of humanity’s most important spiritual and cultural centers. Our visit begins at the famous Vatican Museums, which house one of the world’s richest collections of artworks. We will walk through the Corridor of the Candelabra, the Corridor of the Tapestries, the Hall of Maps, and the famous Raphael Rooms, masterpieces of the Renaissance. The highlight of the visit is the Sistine Chapel, where Michelangelo created some of the most important works in the history of world art, such as the “The Creation of Adam” and the monumental “The Last Judgment.” Next, we’ll visit St. Peter’s Basilica, the largest Christian church in the world, built—according to tradition—over the tomb of the Apostle Peter. Inside, we’ll admire Michelangelo’s famous “Pietà,” Bernini’s imposing bronze candelabrum, and the unparalleled architecture that makes the basilica one of humanity’s greatest monuments. Late in the afternoon, we return to our hotel, filled with images and experiences from a day dedicated to the grandeur of ancient Rome, the Renaissance, and papal tradition. A day that reveals why Rome remains, quite rightly, one of the most fascinating cities in the world.

DAY 5ROME - COLOSSEUM - ROMAN FORUM - PIAZZA VENEZIA - RETURN FLIGHT

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for our final visits to the Eternal City. The last day of our trip is dedicated to the iconic monuments that best capture the grandeur of ancient Rome and its historical journey through the centuries. Our first stop is the Colosseum, Rome’s most famous monument and one of the most important symbols of Western civilization. The imposing Flavian Amphitheater, built in the 1st century AD, was the largest amphitheater in the Roman Empire and a venue for gladiatorial contests, spectacles, and public events. Even today, centuries after its construction, it continues to impress with its size, architectural excellence, and unique historical significance. Next, we’ll tour the Roman Forum (Forum Romanum), the political, religious, and commercial center of ancient Rome. Amid temples, triumphal arches, public buildings, and ancient monuments, we’ll have the opportunity to explore the place where the history of an empire that decisively shaped the development of the Western world was forged. This is where the heart of ancient Rome beat, where the most important political decisions were made and the great events of the era unfolded. Our tour continues to Piazza Venezia, one of the most central and bustling squares in the Italian capital. Dominating the center is the impressive Vittoriano, the monument dedicated to Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a united Italy. This imposing white marble structure is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks and houses the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, a symbol of national remembrance and honor. Next to the square stands the historic Palazzo Venezia, one of Rome’s most important Renaissance buildings, which is linked to defining moments in Italian history and today houses remarkable museum collections. You’ll then have free time to enjoy your final moments in Rome. You can enjoy an authentic Italian espresso, do some last-minute shopping, or simply wander through the picturesque streets of the historic center, soaking up the city’s unique atmosphere. At the scheduled time, we’ll depart for Rome’s airport and board our return flight. As we leave Italy behind, we take with us memories of the lakes of Lombardy, the Renaissance cities of Tuscany, and the masterpieces of the Eternal City. A journey filled with history, culture, art, and unique experiences comes to an end, leaving us with the fondest memories and a longing to return once again to beautiful Italy.
