Field Trip Itinerary

DAY 1Flight to Munich – Regensburg – Dachau – Munich

We’ll meet early in the morning at “Macedonia” Airport and take a direct flight with Aegean Airlines to Munich. Arrival at 9:30 a.m., boarding the bus, and immediate departure for our first trip into the Bavarian countryside. Our first destination is the beautiful Regensburg, one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval cities and a true architectural gem on the banks of the Danube. The city’s history dates back to Roman times, and for many centuries it was one of the most important political, commercial, and economic centers of Central Europe. Its exceptionally well-preserved historic center, with hundreds of listed buildings, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. During our tour, we’ll explore the famous Stone Bridge over the Danube, one of the region’s most significant medieval structures, the imposing St. Peter’s Cathedral, the old mansions, the distinctive towers, and the picturesque alleys of the old town. Colorful facades, small squares, traditional shops, and the unique atmosphere of the Danube create the perfect setting for our first encounter with Bavaria. Free time for a stroll, coffee, or a first meal at one of the traditional beer halls and restaurants in the historic center.

We then depart for Dachau, where we’ll visit one of Europe’s most significant sites of historical remembrance. The Dachau concentration camp was established in 1933 and was the first permanent concentration camp of the Nazi regime. Today, the site serves as a memorial and a place of remembrance. During our visit, we will learn about the camp’s history through the sites of the current memorial, the former administration building and the permanent exhibition, the reconstructed barracks, the prison complex, and the crematorium site. This visit will be different from the others on the trip, but it is particularly important for understanding one of the darkest periods in modern European history. Late in the afternoon, we depart for Munich. Arrival at the hotel, check-in, and settling into our rooms.

The evening is free to explore the illuminated historic center for the first time. The impressive Marienplatz, the New Town Hall, the festively decorated shopping streets, and the famous Christmas Market create a unique festive atmosphere. Try the traditional mulled wine (Glühwein), Bavarian sausages, sweets, and local specialties, or spend your first evening at one of the city’s historic beer halls.

DAY 2Munich – Panoramic Tour – Historic Center – Christmas Markets

After our hearty breakfast, we begin our tour of Munich, one of Germany’s most beautiful and vibrant cities. The capital of Bavaria uniquely combines imperial architecture with a modern character, tradition with luxury, and historic beer halls with elegant shopping boulevards. During our panoramic tour, we’ll have the opportunity to get a comprehensive view of the city, and then we’ll continue on foot through its historic center. The focal point, of course, is the famous Marienplatz, Munich’s central square. Here stands the impressive New Town Hall, one of the city’s most iconic buildings, featuring the famous Glockenspiel. We’ll see the Old Town Hall, St. Peter’s Church, the impressive Frauenkirche with its distinctive twin towers, the elegant Theatinerstraße, and the imposing Odeonsplatz. Next, we’ll pass by the State Opera House and the famous Maximilianstraße, one of Germany’s most expensive and exclusive boulevards, lined with boutiques of international fashion houses, galleries, cafés, and historic buildings.

Of course, we couldn’t miss a stop at the legendary Hofbräuhaus, perhaps Munich’s most famous beer hall and one of the symbols of Bavarian tradition. After the tour, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy. Stroll through the pedestrian streets of the Old Town, visit the Viktualienmarkt open-air market, do some shopping on Kaufingerstraße and Neuhauser Straße, or enjoy a traditional Bavarian meal. For those looking to see more of the city, Munich offers a wealth of options: museums, art galleries, BMW Welt, the Olympic Park, and, of course, its famous beer halls.

In the evening, the historic center transforms into a grand festive scene. Illuminated buildings, Christmas stalls, music, and the scents of cinnamon and mulled wine create the atmosphere that has made Bavaria’s Christmas markets famous around the world. Free time for dining, strolling, and enjoying yourself.

DAY 3Field Trip to Salzburg

Breakfast at the hotel, and today you have two wonderful options. You can enjoy a full day at your leisure in Munich, exploring the city at your own pace, or join us on a unique optional full-day excursion to Salzburg. We depart in the morning and head toward Austria, passing through beautiful countryside that becomes increasingly breathtaking as we approach the Alps. Arrival in Salzburg, one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in Europe, built on the banks of the Salzach River and surrounded by Alpine peaks. Salzburg is world-renowned as the birthplace of the great composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and its historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During our tour, we’ll explore the city’s elegant Baroque heart. We’ll walk along the famous Getreidegasse, Salzburg’s most iconic street, with its ornate metal signs and historic buildings; we’ll see Mozart’s birthplace, the Cathedral, Residenz Square, and the Church of the Holy Trinity. We’ll also explore Mirabell Palace and Gardens, one of the city’s most photographed landmarks.

In your free time, you can climb up to the imposing Hohensalzburg Fortress, which towers over the old town and offers breathtaking views of Salzburg and the surrounding Alps. During the Christmas season, the city takes on a special magic. The squares fill with wooden stalls, music, and traditional treats, while the illuminated historic center creates one of Austria’s most beautiful Christmas scenes. Time for a stroll, shopping, dining, and coffee. In the afternoon, departure and return to Munich.

DAY 4Bavarian Alps – Oberammergau – Tyrol – Innsbruck – Swarovski Crystal Worlds

Breakfast at the hotel, then we set out for one of the most impressive days of the entire trip. We leave Munich behind and head toward the Bavarian Alps, following a beautiful route through forests, valleys, small lakes, and traditional villages. Our first stop is the famous Oberammergau, one of the most picturesque villages in southern Germany. Built at the foot of the Alps, it is known worldwide for the distinctive painted facades of its houses, its traditional wood carvings, and the famous reenactment of the Passion of Christ, which takes place every ten years. As we stroll through the village’s narrow streets, we’ll discover the famous Lüftlmalerei murals. Religious themes, scenes from daily life, Bavarian traditions, and well-known fairy tales transform the entire village into an open-air gallery. Time for a stroll, photos, and coffee.

Our journey then becomes even more impressive as we head toward the Austrian Tyrol and arrive in the beautiful city of Innsbruck. The capital of Tyrol is situated in a unique natural setting, in the valley of the Inn River, with the imposing peaks of the Alps rising almost vertically around the city. Innsbruck flourished during the Habsburg era and still bears strong traces of its imperial history to this day. During our tour of the old town, we’ll see the famous Golden Roof, the city’s symbol; the impressive Maria-Theresien-Straße; St. James’s Cathedral; the imperial Hofburg Palace, the Triumphal Arch, and the distinctive colorful buildings of the Old Town. Free time for a stroll, lunch, and shopping, set amidst one of Europe’s most beautiful Alpine urban landscapes.

We’ll then head to nearby Wattens for a completely different experience: the famous Swarovski Crystal Worlds. We’ll tour the impressive “Halls of Wonders,” where art, light, color, and millions of crystals create a spectacular world. After the visit, there will be time for shopping at the large Swarovski store. Late in the afternoon, we’ll depart for our return to Munich.

DAY 5Munich – Nuremberg – Return flight

The last day of our trip is anything but a “day of departure.” Thanks to our afternoon flight, we still have almost a full day ahead of us to explore one of Bavaria’s most important destinations. After breakfast and checking out of the hotel, we set off for the enchanting city of Nuremberg. During the Middle Ages, the city was one of the most important commercial and cultural centers of the Holy Roman Empire, and to this day it retains one of Germany’s most distinctive historic centers. The old town is surrounded by impressive medieval walls and towers, while the Pegnitz River, which flows through it, the small bridges, the traditional houses, and the cobblestone streets create an exceptionally picturesque setting. We’ll tour the historic center and explore the famous Hauptmarkt, the city’s central square, the historic City Hall, the most important churches, and the landmarks of Old Nuremberg. This is where the famous Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt takes place, one of Europe’s best-known and most traditional Christmas markets. Hundreds of decorated stalls, Christmas ornaments, handmade goods, the scents of cinnamon and spices, and the unique atmosphere of the medieval city create the perfect finale to our trip.

Free time for shopping and lunch. Be sure to try the famous Nürnberger Rostbratwürste sausages, traditional Lebkuchen, and one last cup of hot Glühwein. Early in the afternoon, we’ll head to Munich Airport. We’ll arrive and board the direct Aegean Airlines flight at 8:15 p.m. for our return to Thessaloniki.

A journey filled with diverse sights comes to an end: medieval towns, Christmas markets, Bavarian traditions, the Alps, Tyrol, and some of the most beautiful cities in Germany and Austria.
