There are trips you remember for their landmarks, trips you remember for their sights, and trips you remember for the feeling they leave you with. Southern Italy falls into the third category. It’s a place full of light, sea, history, excitement, flavors, and colors. From Naples and Mount Vesuvius to Capri, Pompeii, and the Amalfi Coast, every day of this journey offers different sights and unique experiences. Naples is the soul of Campania. An authentic, vibrant city, full of contrasts, with narrow streets, churches, squares, markets, balconies, music, the aromas of pizza and coffee, and a daily life that overflows with energy. It’s a city you don’t just observe—you live it. Capri offers the most cosmopolitan side of the trip: the sea, views, elegance, squares, white houses, flower-filled courtyards, and the unique atmosphere of an island synonymous with the Italian dolce vita. Pompeii takes us back in time to an ancient city that was uniquely preserved after the eruption of Vesuvius. The Amalfi Coast and Positano round out the journey with some of the most breathtaking coastal views in the Mediterranean. However, the itinerary isn’t limited to Campania. It begins and ends in Apulia, taking you to Matera, Alberobello, and Ostuni: three destinations with completely different characters, which add authenticity, stone, white towns, and fairytale architecture to the journey. A five-day itinerary perfect for October 28, with a morning departure, an evening return, and every day packed with activities.

Field Trip Itinerary

DAY 1FLIGHT TO BARI – MATERA – NAPLES

We’ll meet early in the morning at “Macedonia” Airport and take a direct flight to Bari. Upon arrival, we’ll board the bus and depart for Matera, one of the most distinctive cities in Southern Italy and the ideal first stop on our journey. Matera is a city with a strong personality. The famous Sassi neighborhoods, the stone houses, the cave dwellings, the churches carved into the rock, and the narrow passageways create a unique setting. The city seems to have been carved right into the natural landscape, blending history, architecture, and an almost mystical atmosphere. We’ll tour the city’s highlights, enjoy the view of the stone neighborhoods, and have time for photos, coffee, or lunch. Matera offers a powerful first glimpse of Southern Italy: authentic, stone-built, historic, and deeply atmospheric. We’ll then head to Naples, the capital of Campania. The route gradually takes us from Apulia toward the famous Bay of Naples, with Mount Vesuvius dominating the landscape. Upon arrival, we’ll check into our hotel and have some time to rest. In the evening, you can take your first stroll through Naples and experience the city’s unique vibe. Naples is bustling, lively, authentic, and charming. It’s the perfect opportunity to try authentic Neapolitan pizza or one of the local pastries, such as the sfogliatella.

DAY 2NAPLES – CAPRI “THE GARDEN OF EDEN” – ANACAPRI

A beautiful day is dawning in Naples, the historic and vibrant capital of Campania. Today you have the opportunity to spend your time in the city however you like, exploring the neighborhoods, squares, picturesque alleys, cafés, and authentic flavors at your own pace. Alternatively, we recommend joining our excursion to the enchanting island of Capri, one of Italy’s most famous and cosmopolitan islands. Our day begins early in the morning with a transfer to the port and boarding the speedboat to cross the Bay of Naples and reach the island rightly called “The Garden of Eden.” According to tradition, Capri is linked to the myths of Homer and the Island of the Sirens, who enchanted Odysseus with their song. From the very first moment, the island captivates visitors with its natural beauty, its turquoise waters, its sheer cliffs, its colorful houses, chic cafés, small squares, and its unique Mediterranean vibe. We’ll explore Capri, with its famous Piazzetta, its picturesque alleys, chic boutiques, and cosmopolitan atmosphere—all of which have made it a favorite destination for artists, celebrities, and travelers from around the world. Next, we’ll visit Anacapri, the quietest and most authentic part of the island, perched higher up, with magnificent views, charming alleyways, traditional houses, and an atmosphere that exudes serenity and island elegance. Roman villas, old mansions, churches, gardens, small squares, and stairways leading to spots with panoramic views come together to create a setting of unique beauty. Capri is not just a destination; it is an experience filled with light, color, history, and Italian finesse. Late in the afternoon, we return by speedboat to Naples and then to our hotel, our minds filled with images of one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean.

DAY 3NAPLES CITY TOUR – POMPEII

After breakfast, we’ll begin our exploration of Naples, one of the most authentic and vibrant cities in Europe. Naples isn’t just a city you visit; it’s a city that draws you into its rhythm. Its streets are full of life, its squares bustling with activity, its narrow alleys brimming with stories, and its flavors are an integral part of its very identity. During the tour, we’ll explore the city’s main landmarks and get a real sense of its historic center. We’ll see squares, main streets, churches, distinctive neighborhoods, and spots that reveal its authentic character. Naples blends its folk heritage with its aristocratic history, art with everyday life, and the sea with the imposing Mount Vesuvius. We then depart for Pompeii, one of the most significant archaeological sites in the world. The ancient city was buried after the eruption of Vesuvius and has been uniquely preserved, offering visitors today a rare glimpse into daily life in antiquity. We’ll stroll through the ancient streets, see homes, public buildings, squares, gathering places, and sites that reveal the organization, wealth, and daily life of the Roman city. Pompeii is not just an archaeological site; it is a journey through time, both moving and impressive. Return to Naples and free time. In the evening, you can enjoy your last or second-to-last night in the city with a meal, a walk, or a leisurely stroll through the city center.

DAY 4SALERNO– POSITANO – AMALFI COAST

After breakfast at the hotel, we set out for one of the most impressive and atmospheric days of our trip, dedicated to the enchanting Amalfi Coast, one of the most beautiful coastlines in Italy and the entire Mediterranean. Our day combines a sea voyage, picturesque villages, unique views, history, vibrant colors, and the authentic elegance of Southern Italy. We depart for Salerno and from there board a boat for a wonderful cruise on the Tyrrhenian Sea. As we sail along the Amalfi Coast, the landscape unfolds before us in a truly unique way: steep cliffs, small coves, colorful villages built in a terraced fashion, houses that seem to hang over the sea, lemon trees, churches, and flower-filled terraces come together to create a scene of rare beauty. Our first stop is Positano, the famous “jewel” of the Amalfi Coast. This village, also known as the “terrace village,” stretches amphitheatrically across the cliffs, with its colorful houses descending all the way down to the endless blue sea. The view of Positano is one of the most iconic in Southern Italy: narrow cobblestone streets, elegant boutiques, small cafés, ceramics, flowers, stairways, and panoramic viewpoints that offer wonderful photo opportunities. We’ll have free time to explore its picturesque streets, admire its unique atmosphere, visit the small shops, enjoy a coffee or ice cream with a view of the sea, and lose ourselves in its charm. Positano is one of those places that needs no exaggeration to impress; a simple stroll through its narrow streets is enough to etch its image into your memory. Next, we head to Amalfi, one of the most historic and idyllic destinations along the coast. Amalfi was one of the most important maritime cities of the Middle Ages and today is one of the most beloved spots in Southern Italy. During our walking tour, we’ll explore the beautiful historic center, the narrow streets, the small squares, the elegant buildings, and the town’s unique seaside atmosphere. The imposing Cathedral of St. Andrew stands out, with its striking façade and architectural elements that blend Byzantine, Arab, and Gothic influences. The square in front of the cathedral is one of Amalfi’s most iconic spots and an ideal location for photos. There will be time for a stroll, a coffee, shopping for local products, and, of course, to sample the famous limoncello, the region’s signature liqueur, made from the fragrant lemons of the coast. In the afternoon, we’ll return to Salerno, a city with a charming seaside character, an interesting historical identity, and a more authentic everyday atmosphere. Time permitting, we’ll take a brief tour of its historic center, with its picturesque narrow streets, squares, and monuments that evoke its medieval and Norman heritage. We’ll see the exterior of Salerno Cathedral, which dates back to the time of the Norman ruler Robert Guiscard, as well as landmarks of the old town, such as the area around Piazza Flavio Gioia, also known as the Rotonda because of its circular shape. Depending on how the day unfolds, we’ll have time for a short stroll through the city center or along the waterfront. With our senses filled with the enchanting sights of the Amalfi Coast, colorful Positano, historic Amalfi, and the charm of Salerno, we’ll return to our hotel in the late afternoon. Today has given us unforgettable experiences, filled with the sea, history, culture, and unique landscapes that will remain etched in our memories.

DAY 5LETZE – TARANTAS – KALLIPOLI – RETURN FLIGHT

Breakfast and departure from Naples, heading toward Apulia, for the last but especially eventful day of our trip. Our first stop is Alberobello, the most distinctive village in Apulia and one of Italy’s most unique destinations. Alberobello is known for its trulli, the traditional stone houses with conical roofs. The village’s scenery is truly unique: white alleyways, small houses, local shops, handmade goods, and a fairy-tale atmosphere that makes every stroll special. We’ll stroll through the picturesque neighborhoods, have time for photos and souvenir shopping, and enjoy one last taste of authentic Apulia. We’ll then continue on to Ostuni, the “White City” of Apulia. Built on a hill, with snow-white houses, winding uphill streets, small squares, and views of the Adriatic Sea, Ostuni is the perfect final stop. The town offers stunning views, a peaceful atmosphere, and quintessential Mediterranean beauty. We’ll have time for a stroll through the historic center, enjoy a coffee, take photos, and take one last stroll through one of the most beautiful white villages in Southern Italy. We’ll then be transferred to the airport for our return flight. Arrival in Thessaloniki in the evening, with our minds filled with memories of Naples, Capri, Pompeii, Amalfi, Positano, Alberobello, and Ostuni.
