Field Trip Itinerary

DAY 1October 1 | Departure for Japan

For quite some time now, you’ve been caught up in the excitement of preparing for your big trip to Japan. Images of Tokyo’s neon lights, Kyoto’s serene temples, and nature’s magical fall colors are already swirling through your mind… And yes, the moment you’ve been waiting for has finally arrived! With the clock counting down and your suitcase packed, it’s time to head to the airport to meet up with the rest of your fellow travelers. With your passport in hand and your spirits at their highest, you’re leaving your daily routine behind to dive into the ultimate adventure in the Land of the Rising Sun. Shall we board?

DAY 2October 2 | Arrival in Tokyo - Shinjuku - Omoide Yokocho

I'm sure your excitement about this destination outweighs any fatigue you might feel from the flights. As soon as we arrive in the capital, we’ll head to the hotel so you can settle in. After a much-needed breather and a quick freshen-up, we’ll head out for our first stroll. From the very first glance, this country will sweep you off your feet. It’ll be like stepping into a manga, except you’ll be the one writing the story. Locals hurrying by, signs with Japanese characters, and the aromas of street food will quickly make you realize that you’re in a destination unlike any other. And since we’re on the subject of street food… don’t hesitate to try everything! After all, one of the many things Japan is famous for is its cuisine. Your first stroll will take you to the heart of Shinjuku. There, you’ll encounter the famous 3D Cat at Cross Shinjuku Vision, a striking digital installation that has become the area’s landmark. Just a stone’s throw away, the scene changes abruptly as you enter the alleyways of Omoide Yokocho, also known as Memory Lane. Here, the smoke from grilled yakitori and the neon lights create an authentic retro-futuristic atmosphere, while the narrow passageways transport you to another era of Japan. It’s time to lose yourself for a moment in the sights and sounds of the tiny eateries before continuing on to the Kabukicho district. There, among the skyscrapers, look for Godzilla’s head towering over the Shinjuku Toho Building. As Tokyo changes its look and the city lights take center stage, we head toward Golden Gai, a unique neighborhood made up of alleys, "tucked away" among the towering buildings. Here you won’t find big chains, but hundreds of tiny bars, each with its own character and story. It’s the perfect place to experience the locals’ authentic nightlife, have a drink in a spot that fits just a few people, and realize that you’re in Japan. For spirits enthusiasts, a whiskey tasting at the Tokyo Whisky Library or a specialty bar is the perfect way to sample legendary Japanese brands such as Yamazaki and Hibiki.

DAY 3October 3 | Senso-ji Temple - Kappabashi - Akihabara - Tokyo Sky Tree

After breakfast at the hotel, the first stop is Asakusa and Senso-ji Temple, the oldest temple in Tokyo. Passing under the giant red Kaminarimon Gate, you’ll walk down Nakamise-dori to reach the historic shrine. The incense rising in front of the temple and its traditional architecture capture the image of Tokyo before the skyscrapers appeared. A short distance away is Kappabashi Street, also known as “chefs’ paradise,” where you’ll find some of the world’s finest handcrafted knives. We continue on to Akihabara Electric Town, where the scene changes completely. Here, temples give way to video games, anime, and vast electronics stores. It’s a vibrant, colorful neighborhood where buildings like Super Potato invite you on a journey into retro gaming culture, while maid cafes and shops selling rare collectible figures showcase the more vibrant side of Japanese pop culture. To wrap up the day, you can optionally visit the Tokyo Skytree for a breathtaking panoramic view of the city from Japan’s tallest tower. Alternatively, you could enjoy a themed dinner at Ninja Tokyo, where food is served with impressive tricks in a setting reminiscent of a ninja hideout. If you’d like, you can experience sumo wrestling, which will take you to the heart of Japanese tradition! You’ll have the opportunity to meet the wrestlers in person, learn the rules, and discover the ancient rituals. The evening concludes with an authentic “champions’ meal,” the famous Chanko-nabe (the sumo hot pot). Of course, before you leave, you’ll take photos with the stars of the show. Alternatively, in the morning only—for those of you who want to experience what goes on behind the scenes—you’ll have the rare opportunity to enter a “Sumo Stable” (training facility) and watch a real training session. You’ll witness up close the incredible strength, discipline, and absolute focus of the athletes as they prepare for their matches. After the training session, you’ll have the honor of meeting the wrestlers—who are extremely friendly—and taking a photo with them.

DAY 4October 4 | Yoyogi Park - Meiji Shrine - Takeshita - Shimokitazawa - Hachiko Statue - Shibuya Sky

After breakfast, the day begins at Yoyogi Park, one of the city’s most vibrant green spaces. Next, the route leads to Meiji Shrine, a shrine nestled within a vast forest of thousands of trees in the heart of the city. As you pass under the imposing wooden Torii gates, the noise of the city fades away, giving way to absolute silence. It’s the perfect place to experience the spiritual side of the Japanese people. Right next door, the scene changes completely as you enter Harajuku and Takeshita Street. Here, the atmosphere is full of color, eccentric fashion, and the energy of Tokyo’s youth. It’s the place to try Harajuku’s famous crepes or get lost in the multi-story shops filled with quirky accessories. If you prefer something more sophisticated, the neighboring Omotesando—also known as the “Elysian Fields of Tokyo”—offers impressive architecture and elegant cafes. Next up is Shimokitazawa. It’s Tokyo’s “hipster” neighborhood, filled with vintage shops and trendy cafes, offering a more laid-back and alternative vibe. In the afternoon, the day reaches its peak in Shibuya. There, you’ll find yourself at Shibuya Crossing, the world’s busiest intersection, where hundreds of people cross the street simultaneously from every direction. After taking the obligatory photo with the statue of the loyal dog Hachiko, you can, if you’d like, head up to Shibuya Sky. From the open-air observation deck on the skyscraper’s rooftop, you’ll have the city at your feet. You can choose another exciting optional experience that’s considered a “must” for every visitor to Tokyo! Imagine yourself in a specially designed go-kart, wearing your favorite character’s costume and driving through the heart of Tokyo. We guarantee that all eyes will be on you! It’s no coincidence that this activity has been featured in media outlets around the world and has been a favorite among celebrities, from world-famous singers and movie stars to F1 drivers, to create their best memories of Japan.

DAY 5October 5 | Shinjuku Gyoen - Gotokuji Temple - Ueno Park - Ginza

Your day begins with a stroll through Shinjuku Gyoen, Tokyo’s most beautiful park, which combines Japanese, French, and English-style gardens. Next, you’ll visit Gotokuji Temple, the birthplace of the Maneki-neko, with its thousands of white cat figurines that bring good luck. After the tranquility of the temple, head to Ueno Park. You can stroll around Shinobazu Pond or walk through the Ameyoko Market right next door. It’s a bustling open-air market beneath the train tracks, full of stalls and energy. At lunchtime, head to the Tsukiji Outer Market. Although the wholesale market has moved, Tsukiji remains the “heart” of Tokyo’s food scene, and at lunchtime it’s bustling with life. You’ll walk among hundreds of stalls serving the freshest sushi you’ve ever tasted, grilled seafood, tamagoyaki, and fresh oysters. It’s the perfect time for an authentic meal on the go, sampling different flavors from the stalls. In the afternoon, your route takes you to the neighboring Ginza district, which is just a stone’s throw away. It’s the city’s most elegant district, filled with striking, cutting-edge architecture, luxury boutiques, and historic department stores.

DAY 6October 6 | Chureito Pagoda - Oishi Park - Mount Fuji - Hakone Shrine

Your day begins with a departure from Tokyo bound for the Five Lakes region, where Mount Fuji dominates the horizon. Your first stop is the Chureito Pagoda, the iconic red pagoda that offers Japan’s most famous view with the mountain in the background. Next, head toward Lake Kawaguchi, stopping at Oishi Park on its northern shore. There, you’ll stroll among flower beds in full bloom and enjoy the view of the lake and, weather permitting, Mount Fuji with nothing blocking your view. After your stroll around the lake, the route takes you toward the Hakone side, with Hakone Shrine as your destination. The highlight here is the imposing Torii gate standing in the waters of Lake Ashi, a place of absolute serenity and beauty. After bidding farewell to Mount Fuji, you’ll board the “bullet train” bound for the heart of tradition, Kyoto, where we’ll spend the night.

DAY 7October 7 | Bullet train - Nishiki Market - Maruyama Park - Kiyomizu-dera

Kyoto is home to many Buddhist temples, palaces, and gardens, many of which have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The traditional wooden houses, the clacking of geta (wooden sandals) on the stones, the “geisha” walking in their brightly colored silk robes, and the temple pagodas all create a nostalgic atmosphere. By noon, you’ll already be weaving your way through the stalls of Nishiki Market, the city’s legendary “kitchen.” Here, it’s simple… Try whatever catches your eye, from fresh seafood to matcha treats! With a full stomach, head on to Maruyama Park, where you’ll enjoy an autumn stroll and grab a quick bite from the traditional food stalls, soaking up the local vibe. The magic reaches its peak as you make your way up to Kiyomizu-dera. Get ready to be amazed, because the view from the temple’s wooden terrace as the sun sets and paints the city orange is simply unbeatable. If you’d like, you can experience a tea ceremony under the guidance of an experienced master of the art. You’ll observe the intricate process, learn about the rich history, the traditional tools, and the etiquette of this sacred ritual. Of course, you’ll also prepare and then enjoy your own cup of matcha. Your day will come to a atmospheric close in the alleys of Gion, with their lit lanterns and the hope of catching a glimpse of a real geisha gliding between the wooden houses.

DAY 8October 8 | Kinkaku-ji - Bamboo Forest - Otagi Nenbutsu-ji - Kinkaku-ji - Fushimi Inari - Pontocho Alley

Your day begins at Kinkaku-ji, the famous Golden Pavilion. You’ll be left speechless as you watch its two upper floors, entirely covered in gold leaf, reflected in the tranquil waters of the lake. Next, we’ll head to the Arashiyama area (“Storm Mountain”), where you’ll be captivated by the beautiful Bamboo Forest and the serene surroundings. The unique sound produced as the wind passes through the stalks and foliage of the towering bamboo trees will enchant you. Along with the Fushimi Inari Shrine and Kinkaku-ji Temple, the Arashiyama Forest is one of the most photographed places in Kyoto. After your walk through the Bamboo Forest, we’ll head to Otagi Nenbutsu-ji, a Buddhist temple featuring over 1,200 stone figures representing the Rakan, or disciples of Shaka (the founder of Buddhism). They were created by amateurs from across the country under the guidance of sculptor Kocho Nishimura, and each sculpture depicts expressive faces, adding a playful element to the spiritual setting. The sculptures were first donated in 1981, allowing the present temple—built in the mid-8th century—to take on a renewed appearance. Now, the smiling faces and expressive gestures still manage to shine through the moss that covers them. Your day culminates with a visit to the legendary Fushimi Inari-taisha, the shrine with thousands of bright red torii gates that form an endless, magical tunnel on the mountainside. As you walk beneath the gates, you’ll feel the sanctity of the place envelop you, while dozens of fox statues keep you company. To round out the day, Pontocho Alley awaits you—one of Japan’s most atmospheric streets. This narrow, traditional alleyway by the river is lined with tiny bars, hidden restaurants, and authentic izakayas. With its dim lighting and historic ambiance, it’s the perfect place to unwind with a drink and experience the nighttime magic of Kyoto, where the past meets the vibrancy of the present.

DAY 9October 9 | Nara - Todai-ji - Osaka

Today, we are heading to Nara. Because of its history as Japan’s first permanent capital, the city is home to priceless historical treasures, including some of the country’s oldest and largest temples. As you enter the heart of Nara Park, you’ll be greeted by hundreds of friendly deer roaming freely throughout the grounds. The reverence for Nara’s deer likely stems most from the Shinto religion, as they are considered sacred messengers of the gods. In ancient times, in fact, killing a deer was a terrible crime punishable by death. Here, we’ll have the opportunity to admire the legendary Daibutsu (Great Buddha), one of the largest bronze statues in the world, housed in the imposing Todai-ji Temple, an architectural marvel that will leave you speechless with its size and spiritual grandeur. After touring the magnificent temples and treasures of Buddhist art, we leave the tranquility of Nara behind. Our day concludes with a trip to Osaka, the dynamic “kitchen of Japan” and the city that never sleeps. We’ll spend the night there, getting our first taste of the city’s bright neon lights, its incredible energy, and the flavors that have made it world-famous. We’ll head to the bustling Dōtombori district, the very “heartbeat” of the city. It’s the ideal place to discover some of Osaka’s best restaurants, though the area is particularly famous for its restaurants with vending machines. Amid the neon lights, giant signs, and incredible aromas of street food, you’ll feel Osaka’s authentic, vibrant energy sweep you away!

DAY 10October 10 | Hiroshima

Get ready for a full and exciting day! You’ll start in the morning with a destination that will take you back in time… Kurashiki. Imagine a historic neighborhood, the Bikan Historical Quarter, with beautiful canals, white traditional rice warehouses that have been converted into trendy boutiques and cafes, and boat rides beneath the willow trees. It’s the perfect place to relax, take some of the most artistic photos of your trip, and sample local delicacies by the water. Once you’ve taken plenty of photos, you continue on your way and soon arrive in Hiroshima. In the afternoon, you’ll find yourself walking through Peace Memorial Park, a place that inspires awe and emotion, as you gaze upon the iconic Atomic Bomb Dome standing there as a global symbol of hope. Before you leave, be sure to try the authentic Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki (the legendary local “pizza” with layers of noodles), which will give you the energy you need. Your day ends with your arrival in Osaka for an overnight stay.

DAY 11October 11 | Osaka Castle - Universal Studios - Shinsekai - Umeda Sky Building - Namba Yasaka

Osaka is a worthy rival to Tokyo and Kyoto in terms of popularity. It’s a metropolis that offers everything. From delicious food and trendy shopping streets to bustling neighborhoods lit up by neon lights and imposing skyscrapers. As Japan’s third-largest city, it has been the economic powerhouse of the Kansai region for centuries. If Kyoto was the city of the aristocracy and Tokyo the city of the samurai, then Osaka was undoubtedly the city of the merchant class. After admiring Osaka Castle and its rich history, the rest of the day offers the optional chance to escape into the world of entertainment at Universal Studios Japan, where the magic of Harry Potter and the interactive Super Nintendo World promise an adrenaline-filled experience. For those who prefer to spend their free time in the city differently, Osaka offers countless alternatives, such as a stroll through the retro Shinsekai district for authentic street food, a visit to the Umeda Sky Building for panoramic views from its “hanging garden,” or a visit to the unique Namba Yasaka Shrine with its massive lion’s head.

DAY 12October 12 | Return to Greece

After breakfast, you’ll have time to take some final photos of Osaka or do some last-minute shopping. Then, we’ll head to the airport, where we’ll catch our return flight. Everyday life in Greece may go on as usual, but we’ll keep these memories alive. The sights, tastes, and sounds of Japan will stay with you forever… Until your next trip, keep searching for new adventures!
