We’ll meet at “Macedonia” Airport early Thursday morning, December 24, and take a direct flight to Krakow. Arrival at 6:25 a.m., baggage claim, and transfer to the city center. Our tour of the city begins in the Old Town, where every street reveals a different piece of its history. We’ll see the Barbican and St. Florian’s Gate, and then walk along Floriańska Street toward the main square, Rynek Główny. Here, the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, with its distinctive asymmetrical towers, the historic Cloth Hall, known as Sukiennice, and the Town Hall Tower stand out. We’ll learn about the history of the famous Hejnał bugle call, one of the city’s most recognizable symbols. Continuing along the Royal Route, we’ll pass Grodzka Street and the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, with its impressive row of statues of the Apostles. Our tour will take us to the Wawel Hill area and the banks of the Vistula River for an exterior tour of the royal complex and views of the castle and the Cathedral. This day does not include admission to the castle’s exhibitions or the Cathedral. Transfer to the hotel and check-in. The rest of the day is dedicated to relaxation and enjoying the city’s wonderful Christmas atmosphere.
Happy Birthday! After breakfast, spend the whole day soaking up the festive atmosphere of Krakow however you’d like. Alternatively, join us for a unique Christmas day at the foot of the Tatra Mountains. We’ll head to Zakopane, Poland’s famous “winter capital,” where local traditions blend with the mountain scenery and distinctive wooden architecture. We’ll stroll along the famous Krupówki, the city’s main pedestrian street, and get a feel for the resort’s unique character. In the Kościeliska Street area, we’ll discover glimpses of old Zakopane, with traditional wooden houses and details that showcase the craftsmanship of local artisans. The peaks of the Tatra Mountains, visibility permitting, complete the backdrop of our excursion. Those who wish can sample local delicacies, such as stuffed pierogi and hot kwaśnica soup. Return to Kraków.
After breakfast, we depart for the Auschwitz–Birkenau Museum and Memorial, one of the most significant sites commemorating the Holocaust. The tour is led by an official guide from the Memorial and includes the Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II–Birkenau sites. Through the preserved buildings, artifacts, and the guide’s narration, we explore the history of the Nazi camp and the fate of the people who were imprisoned and murdered here. This is a visit of great historical and human significance, one that demands respect and time for reflection. We return to Kraków and, according to the confirmed holiday schedule, plan to visit the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Inside, we’ll admire the decor and the famous wood-carved polyptych by Veit Stoss, one of the most significant works of late Gothic art. This is followed by free time in the Old Town for lunch, coffee, and a stroll around the main square.
Breakfast and departure for Wieliczka, where an impressive underground world awaits us. During the guided tour, we’ll walk through historic tunnels, learn about the work of the salt miners, and admire chambers, sculptures, and chapels carved out of salt. The underground lakes and wooden support structures add a unique character to the tour. A highlight is the Chapel of Saint Kinga, an imposing space with relief carvings and chandeliers that showcase the artistic side of this historic mine. The tourist route reaches a depth of approximately 135 meters and includes many steps; comfortable shoes are recommended, and visitors should inquire in advance about any mobility challenges. Returning to Kraków, we continue on to Kazimierz, the historic Jewish quarter. As we walk along Szeroka Street, past the exteriors of the synagogues, and through Plac Nowy, we’ll discover a neighborhood with a strong cultural identity, centuries of history, and a vibrant contemporary art scene. Time for lunch and independent exploration. The afternoon is free. Those interested can visit the museum at Oskar Schindler’s former factory, dedicated to Kraków during the Nazi occupation.
Breakfast, check-out, and departure with our luggage for Warsaw. The last day offers a second, different perspective on Poland: the capital, which was rebuilt after the devastation of World War II and today combines historic neighborhoods with modern architecture. Upon arrival, we’ll take in a panoramic view of the modern city, with the Palace of Culture and Science as our landmark. We’ll continue to the Old Town, where we’ll walk through Castle Square, view the Sigismund Column and the exterior of the Royal Castle, and head toward Market Square, with its colorful facades and the statue of the Gorgon. Our tour continues to the city walls and the Barbican, and then along a section of the Royal Route, on Krakowskie Przedmieście, with its historic churches, mansions, and the Presidential Palace. There will be time for lunch and a final stroll through the city center. The visit to Warsaw includes walking tours and exterior views of monuments. Transfer to the airport and direct flight to Thessaloniki. We return with memories of two unique Polish cities, Christmas memories, and experiences that blend culture, history, and winter ambiance.
