In our specially designed itinerary, young and old alike will discover Hungary’s fairytale capital, have fun at modern family-friendly venues, and enjoy the enchanting winter atmosphere of Central Europe. The trip is made even more enriching thanks to the excellent flight schedules: we arrive in Bratislava early in the morning and, before we even reach Budapest, we also get to experience festive Vienna. Our return flight departs late at night from Budapest, allowing us to enjoy almost the entire last day. An experienced tour leader will accompany you, and during the scheduled afternoon hours, an educator will be on hand to lead creative activities for the children in a specially designated area of the hotel. We’ll meet early in the morning at “Macedonia” Airport and fly to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Arrival and boarding our bus bound for imperial Vienna. The short distance between the two capitals allows us to make the most of our arrival day and begin our journey in one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. Upon arrival in Vienna, we’ll immediately begin our panoramic tour of the Austrian capital. We’ll pass by the unique Hundertwasserhaus, one of the city’s most recognizable contemporary architectural landmarks, and we’ll see the magnificent Baroque Belvedere complex, built as the summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy. We’ll continue on to Karlsplatz, dominated by the impressive Karlskirche, and then walk along the famous Ringstrasse, the grand boulevard that encircles the historic center and is a veritable open-air museum of architecture. Along the way, we’ll see some of Vienna’s most important buildings: the famous State Opera House, the imperial Hofburg, the imposing Museums of Art History and Natural History, the Parliament, the Burgtheater, City Hall, the University, and the neo-Gothic Votivkirche. We then get off the bus and walk into the heart of old Vienna. Passing through elegant pedestrian streets, historic buildings, and stately facades, we arrive at the imposing St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the city’s timeless symbol. We’ll also pass through the historic Greek quarter, home to the Greek Orthodox churches of St. George and the Holy Trinity, an area inextricably linked to the presence and commercial activity of Greeks in Vienna. And of course, festive Vienna means Christmas markets. The city is transformed during this season: squares filled with illuminated wooden huts, the aromas of Glühwein and Punsch, roasted chestnuts, Austrian sausages, sweets, and Kaiserschmarrn create one of Central Europe’s most iconic Christmas scenes. We’ll have free time in the historic center for lunch, coffee, shopping, and, of course, to enjoy the unique festive atmosphere. Late in the afternoon, we’ll meet up and depart for Budapest. The route takes us from Austria to Hungary, and in the evening we’ll arrive at the “Queen of the Danube.” We arrive at our hotel, check into our rooms, and spend the night. A truly eventful first day, which in just a few hours takes us through three different countries and, from the very first moment, treats us to scenes of imperial Europe and Christmas magic.
After breakfast, we begin our comprehensive tour of the “Queen of the Danube.” Our first stop is the monumental Heroes’ Square and the Millennium Monument, which together unfold the history of Hungary. We continue along Andrássy Avenue, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the impressive State Opera House and the elegant 19th-century buildings. In Pest, we’ll see St. Stephen’s Basilica, the imposing Parliament Building on the riverbank, and the famous bridges connecting the two sides of the city. Crossing over to Buda, we’ll explore the Castle District, the Fishermen’s Bastion, and the historic Matthias Church, where important royal ceremonies were held. From the panoramic viewpoints in Buda, we’ll enjoy a unique view of the Danube, the bridges, and Pest. At noon, we’ll enjoy an exceptional visit—provided the museum reopens as announced—to the impressive Light Art Museum, a unique space where art meets technology. Light installations, digital projections, colors, and interactive exhibits create a thrilling environment that delights both children and adults. A modern, photogenic, and unique experience that transforms the visit into a true play of light and imagination. Afterward, we’ll return to the hotel and have time to relax. During the scheduled hours, the educator will engage our young friends in creative activities in a specially designed space. In the evening, we recommend a special nighttime cruise on the Danube. The illuminated Parliament Building, Buda Castle, and the bridges reflected in the water create one of the most beautiful sights of the trip.
We’ll enjoy a good breakfast at the hotel and get ready for the second day of our trip. We’re heading to yet another unique spot, perfect for all ages: the famous Budapest City Park (Városliget), a huge park near the city center. We’ll pass through Heroes’ Square and first visit Vajdahunyad Castle, one of the 10 most impressive castles in Europe! Built in 1896, it showcases the country’s architectural evolution over the centuries. It hosts various festivals, concerts, and exhibitions and is listed among Europe’s Top 10 winter destinations according to Lonely Planet. Next, you can enjoy the festive atmosphere with your family and new friends at one or more of the following venues, all located in City Park.
Budapest Zoo
It’s rare to find a zoo in the center of a city, but here it’s a reality. It is the oldest zoo in Hungary and one of the oldest in the world, home to 1,072 species.
Ice Skating Lake Rink
Particularly romantic, it’s located in the city park, on a lake where boat rides take place in the summer; but in winter it transforms into a massive ice skating rink from mid-November through mid-February, with thousands of visitors enjoying the unique scenery. Show off your ice-skating skills in a wonderful Christmas atmosphere. You can stay as long as you like and make your own way back to the city center or your hotel—after all, it’s only a 10-minute walk.
Today is December 25, Christmas Day, and you’ve just woken up in a 4-star hotel in Budapest. After a delicious breakfast, the day is yours to enjoy however you wish in this wonderful Christmas capital. Our tour guide is there to provide you with all the necessary information. Alternatively, join us on a wonderful optional excursion. Don’t worry—it’s not too tiring for the kids. As in every city, there are wonderful places to visit in the surrounding area. The most famous excursion is to the villages along the Danube in Hungary. On the beautiful route along the Danube, we’ll first stop at the picturesque village of St. Andrew, home to many famous artists. We continue on to Visegrád, the birthplace of Charlemagne. Next is the first capital of Hungary, Esztergom, with its enormous cathedral, home to the Hungarian religious treasure. In the evening, join us (optional) for one of the highlights of the trip: a unique dinner at a traditional Hungarian tavern, where the spicy goulash and the sounds of Gypsy violins will enchant you.
Today is dedicated to our little friends. We’ll start with a visit to the MiniPolisz family fun center. It’s designed to offer children ages 3–12 the ultimate “grown-up experience,” where, with over 30 activity stations, kids can become firefighters, police officers, bankers, travel agents, auto mechanics, and even rock stars! It’s a city for adults on a child’s scale, where our little friends can have fun getting a taste of how the world works. Now it’s time for some action! We’re off to Cyberjump Trampoline Park, a 3,000-square-meter venue—one of the largest of its kind in Europe—packed with fun indoor sports activities for adults and children ages 4 and up. At noon, we’ll enjoy the “Christmas Miracle Show-Magic” at Europe’s only stone circus, the Capital Circus. It’s an entertaining show (with no animals, except for a few trained dogs) featuring acrobats, jugglers, clowns, and more. By evening, we’ll be at the airport for our return flight, filled with beautiful memories, new friends, and family moments.
