Our holiday getaway for the October 28 holiday period begins at “Macedonia,” with a direct Aegean Airlines flight to Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia and one of Europe’s most charming city break destinations. Upon arrival, we’ll meet our local Greek-speaking guide, who—during the transfer to the hotel—will provide us with useful information about the city, its neighborhoods, transportation, entertainment options, and the places worth exploring over the next few days. This will give us a first impression of Barcelona and its unique atmosphere, even before we begin our organized tour of the city. Arrival at the hotel and check-in. Our hotels are located in central or particularly convenient areas of Barcelona, so we can enjoy the city easily and comfortably, even during our free time. After a short rest, we’ll take a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood around the hotel to get a first glimpse of daily life in the city, its illuminated alleys, small shops, and the area’s atmosphere. This first stroll will take us to one of the nearby cafés or tapas bars, where we’ll have the chance to enjoy a coffee, a glass of wine, or a light dinner, gradually getting into the rhythm of Barcelona. Around October 28, the city is ideal for an autumn city break, with a relaxed atmosphere, beautiful evening strolls, and authentic local experiences. Return to the hotel and overnight stay.
After breakfast, we begin our first in-depth exploration of Barcelona, a city that uniquely combines history, art, modern architecture, and Mediterranean vibrancy. The period around October 28 is ideal for sightseeing, as the city moves at a more leisurely pace, the weather is pleasant, and the walks are more enjoyable. Our tour begins with the imposing Sagrada Familia, Antoni Gaudí’s most significant work and Barcelona’s most recognizable symbol, which we’ll walk around. This unique monument impresses with its architectural imagination, religious symbolism, and intricate details that make it one of the most marvelous works in the world. During our bus tour, we’ll pass along the famous Passeig de Gràcia, the city’s elegant boulevard, known for its impressive buildings, elegant shops, and distinctive architecture. Here we’ll admire two of Gaudí’s greatest creations, Casa Batlló and Casa Milà – La Pedrera, as well as other masterpieces of Catalan Modernism. Next, we’ll head up to Montjuïc Hill, one of Barcelona’s most iconic landmarks. From here, we’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the city and explore key landmarks in the area, such as the Magic Fountain, Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Pavilion, and the Olympic facilities from the 1992 Games, including the impressive Olympic Stadium. Our tour continues toward the city’s waterfront, passing through the Olympic Village, Port Olímpic, and ending at the beloved Barceloneta, the old fishing neighborhood that is now one of Barcelona’s liveliest and most charming areas. Even in the fall, Barceloneta retains its seaside charm and offers wonderful scenery for a leisurely stroll along the water. In your free time, you can enjoy paella, seafood, or a glass of wine at one of the area’s restaurants. Return to the hotel on your own at any time you wish. In the evening, we recommend attending an authentic flamenco show—an experience full of passion, intensity, music, and the Spanish spirit. It’s the perfect way to round out a full day in Barcelona.
After breakfast, we’ll begin our walking tour in the city’s most historic and atmospheric neighborhood, the unique Gothic Quarter. This is the heart of old Barcelona, a charming labyrinth of narrow streets, small squares, stone buildings, and medieval monuments that reveal the city’s history step by step. We’ll stroll through alleys full of character, discover hidden corners of the old town, and see the imposing Barcelona Cathedral, one of Catalonia’s most important Gothic cathedrals. The autumn atmosphere makes the stroll even more enjoyable, as the city is quieter and perfect for exploring without the intense crowds of summer. Next, we’ll walk along the famous La Rambla, Barcelona’s most well-known pedestrian street, bustling with life, shops, cafés, and the characteristic local vibe. Our stroll will take us to the famous La Boqueria market, one of the city’s most beloved culinary destinations. There, we’ll have the chance to see stalls bursting with colors, aromas, and flavors, featuring fresh fruit, cured meats, cheeses, seafood, tapas, and local products. Our walking tour will conclude at the impressive Plaça Reial, a stately square with arcades, palm trees, cafés, and a unique atmosphere. Here you can relax with a coffee, a glass of wine, or a meal before continuing your day at your own pace. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy. You can visit the El Born neighborhood, the Picasso Museum, go shopping, or enjoy churros with hot chocolate—a sweet treat that’s perfect for this time of year.
Today is a free day for you to enjoy Barcelona as you wish or, alternatively, to join our optional excursion to Girona and Figueres, two of Catalonia’s most charming destinations. Our excursion begins in Figueres, the birthplace of Salvador Dalí. There, we’ll visit the famous Dalí Theater-Museum, one of the most unique museum spaces in Europe. The museum houses the world’s largest collection of works by this great artist and showcases all phases of his creative journey, from his early works to his most iconic surrealist creations. In addition to his paintings and installations, the museum also displays Dalí’s jewelry collection, featuring unique pieces designed by the artist himself, which reveal yet another facet of his imagination and artistic genius. We then depart for the enchanting city of Girona, a city built on the banks of the Onyar River, which impresses with its colorful houses, stone-paved alleys, medieval walls, and unique atmosphere. Girona is the perfect destination for a fall getaway, as the quieter season highlights its authentic beauty even more. We’ll tour the old town, admire the imposing Girona Cathedral, one of Spain’s most important Gothic cathedrals, and stroll through the historic Jewish Quarter, known as Call Jueu. It is one of the best-preserved medieval Jewish quarters in Europe, with narrow streets and an atmosphere steeped in history. After a day filled with art, history, and stunning sights, we’ll return to Barcelona in the late afternoon. The evening is free for one last night out on the town. You can enjoy tapas, wine, or a leisurely stroll through Barcelona’s illuminated neighborhoods, bringing our festive getaway to a beautiful close.
Our last day in Barcelona is dedicated to taking in the final sights, flavors, and memories of this unique city. Since the return flight is scheduled for later, we’ll have time to enjoy a few more hours in the capital of Catalonia. We recommend visiting the famous La Boqueria once more—Barcelona’s renowned market, brimming with colors, aromas, and authentic Spanish flavors. There you can sample local cured meats, such as jamón, fresh fruit, cheeses, seafood, and of course tapas, which are an integral part of the locals’ daily culture. For a sweet final taste of the city, it’s worth trying the famous churros with hot chocolate, a beloved Spanish treat that perfectly complements the autumnal atmosphere of the season. You can also use your free time for one last stroll along Passeig de Gràcia, for some shopping around Plaça Catalunya, for a coffee in the Gothic Quarter, or for a stroll along the waterfront, savoring Barcelona’s Mediterranean vibe for just a little while longer. Before we leave, we let the city treat us to its final sights: Gaudí’s architecture, the historic alleyways, the lively squares, the flavors, the lights, and its unique rhythm. Next comes the transfer to the airport for our return flight to Thessaloniki, with the memories of this festive getaway on October 28 staying with us for a long time to come.
