Field Trip Itinerary

DAY 1DEPARTURE FLIGHT - AMSTERDAM - EVENING STROLL

Meet at “Macedonia” Airport on Thursday, December 24, at 11:40 a.m. for a direct flight to Amsterdam, a unique European city that combines timeless charm with a modern character, history with the freedom of everyday life, and the romantic atmosphere of the canals with the pulse of a vibrant metropolis. Upon arrival, we’ll be taken to the hotel and check into our rooms. We will then head to Amsterdam’s historic Central Station, one of the city’s most iconic buildings. Built in the late 19th century, in an impressive Neo-Renaissance style, it is not only a major transportation hub but also one of Amsterdam’s most distinctive architectural landmarks. From here, we’ll begin our first evening exploration of the city, walking toward the famous Dam Square, the historic heart of Amsterdam. During our walk, we’ll get a first taste of the city’s atmosphere, the canals, its distinctive buildings, the bike paths, and the vibrancy that makes Amsterdam so special. At the beautiful Dam Square, with the Royal Palace, the New Church, and the National Monument, we’ll have some free time to explore the surrounding streets for the first time, today, on Christmas Eve. Make the most of your time however you like: with a stroll along the illuminated canals, dinner at one of the city’s restaurants, or a leisurely walk through the most atmospheric neighborhoods in the city center.

DAY 2AMSTERDAM - CITY TOUR - COSTER DIAMONDS – ZAANSE SCHANS - VOLENDAM

Good morning and Merry Christmas! After breakfast at the hotel, we set out for a day dedicated to getting to know the famous—and now festive—Dutch capital even better. Amsterdam, one of Europe’s most unique and charming cities, reveals its beauty to us through its countless canals, elegant mansions, bridges, bike paths, and its lively, multicultural atmosphere. During our tour, we’ll explore distinctive neighborhoods and key landmarks of the city, going beyond the first impression we got the previous day. We’ll pass through the area of the major museums, dominated by the imposing Rijksmuseum, and admire the elegance of Museumplein, one of Amsterdam’s most famous squares. We’ll also see the Western Church, one of the city’s most important landmarks, as well as areas that capture the authentic character of the Dutch capital. Next, we’ll explore iconic spots in the historic center, such as Waterlooplein, Rembrandt Square, the Rokin district, and the famous flower market, gaining a deeper understanding of the daily life, markets, canals, and unique atmosphere that make Amsterdam one-of-a-kind. Our tour of the city continues at the famous Coster Diamonds, one of the oldest diamond-cutting houses in Amsterdam. There, we’ll have the opportunity to see firsthand the process of cutting and polishing diamonds, an art form inextricably linked to the city’s history, and to admire stunning jewelry and dazzling exhibits from the company’s collection. Immediately afterward, we recommend enjoying one of Amsterdam’s most beautiful experiences: an optional canal cruise. During this enchanting tour, you’ll see the city from its most romantic side, admire the distinctive architecture of the 17th-century houses, and pass by iconic landmarks such as the Rijksmuseum, the Western Church, the famous Skinny Bridge, and the historic Amstel Hotel. The cruise is a unique way to experience the city’s true rhythm and enjoy unforgettable views. At noon, we invite you to continue your day with an optional excursion to the authentic Dutch countryside, full of idyllic landscapes, traditional sights, and local charm. Our first stop is Zaanse Schans, a living open-air museum that transports us back to the era of windmills and traditional Dutch life. There, we’ll stroll among authentic windmills, learn about the production process of famous Dutch cheeses, and watch the art of crafting wooden shoes, the well-known clogs. Next, we’ll head to the enchanting Volendam, a picturesque seaside fishing village that looks like something straight out of a postcard. You’ll have time to stroll along the beautiful harbor, soak up the village atmosphere, sample local delicacies such as fresh fish, eel, or herring, and take photos among the traditional houses and picturesque alleys. With its wooden cottages, shades of green and white, and nostalgic atmosphere, Volendam is one of the most beloved images of the Dutch countryside. In the afternoon, we return to Amsterdam.

DAY 3DELFT - THE HAGUE - ANTWERP - BRUSSELS

After breakfast at the hotel, we depart from Amsterdam and embark on a particularly eventful day that will take us from the Netherlands to Belgium, through cities rich in history, architectural beauty, and a unique atmosphere. Our first stop is picturesque Delft, one of the most charming and historic cities in the Netherlands. Known for its famous blue pottery, canals, traditional houses, and connection to the great painter Johannes Vermeer, Delft retains an authentic and romantic character to this day. Upon our arrival, we’ll have the opportunity to stroll through the old town and enjoy scenes straight out of a painting. Our tour begins in the Oostpoort area, home to the only surviving gate of the city’s old entrances—one of Delft’s most photographed landmarks. We continue on to the Old Church (Oude Kerk), an impressive Gothic church that towers over the canals, and as we walk among picturesque little bridges, facades with traditional gables, and tranquil corners of the city, we arrive at the central Markt Square. The square is dominated by the impressive City Hall, with its elegant facade and distinctive architectural features, while across from it stands the New Church (Nieuwe Kerk), linked to the history of the Dutch royal family. Here we’ll have time for photos, a short stroll, or a coffee, enjoying the atmosphere of a city that combines history, art, and authentic Dutch charm. We’ll then head to The Hague, the cosmopolitan seat of the Dutch government and an important hub for international organizations and courts. The third-largest city in the Netherlands combines imposing public buildings, elegant embassies, traditional architecture, green spaces, and an atmosphere of prestige and understated elegance. During our tour, we’ll explore the famous Binnenhof, the country’s historic political center, as well as the Peace Palace, one of The Hague’s most iconic buildings, known for its connection to international justice. We’ll also see the city’s central districts, with their cafés, pedestrian streets, and beautiful squares that reflect its cosmopolitan character. Leaving the Netherlands behind, we continue our journey to Belgium and the impressive city of Antwerp, built on the banks of the Scheldt River. It is Belgium’s largest port and one of the country’s most dynamic cities, known for its commercial heritage, art, fashion, and long history of diamond cutting. Our tour of Antwerp begins in the historic city center, where we’ll admire the imposing Cathedral of Our Lady, one of Belgium’s most important Gothic monuments, as well as the impressive City Hall in the central square. We’ll stroll through the picturesque alleys of the old town and along the famous shopping street, and we’ll also see the Boerentoren, one of the city’s most iconic buildings and one of Europe’s first skyscrapers. Antwerp hides little surprises around every corner: chocolate shops, art galleries, antique shops, elegant cafés, diamond stores, and boutiques by Belgian designers, all of which highlight its creative and cosmopolitan character. There will be time for a short stroll, some shopping, or a coffee, so we can get a first taste of the city’s atmosphere. Late in the afternoon, we arrive in Brussels, the capital of Belgium and an important political center of Europe. During the trip, our tour guide will provide us with some initial information about the city and the sights we’ll be visiting over the next few days. After we arrive and check in at the hotel, you can enjoy an evening out to get a first taste of Brussels’ enchanting atmosphere. We recommend a stroll through the famous Grand Place, one of the most beautiful squares in Europe, where the impressive City Hall and the ornate guild houses create a unique setting, particularly striking when illuminated at night.

DAY 4BRUSSELS - GHENT - BRUGES

We enjoy a good breakfast at the hotel, and our day begins with a departure for Ghent, a city that harmoniously blends its medieval heritage with the vibrant and youthful character of a modern Belgian city. Ghent, built at the confluence of rivers and canals, was one of Europe’s most important commercial and economic centers during the Middle Ages, a fact that is still evident today in its imposing buildings and the atmosphere of its historic center. During our tour, we will see the impressive City Hall, the Government House, and the Church of St. Nicholas, one of the city’s oldest and most distinctive landmarks. We will also visit the imposing Cathedral of St. Bavo, where the famous work by the Van Eyck brothers, “The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb,” one of the greatest masterpieces of Flemish painting. As we stroll through the historic center of Ghent, we’ll enjoy the city’s unique atmosphere, the canals, bridges, medieval facades, and picturesque alleys that create a setting steeped in history and romance. Next, we’ll head to Bruges, one of the most idyllic and romantic cities in Europe. Bruges’s old town, with its medieval architecture, cobbled streets, bridges, and picturesque canals, has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is rightly considered one of Belgium’s most beautiful cities. Our tour begins in the lush park featuring the Lake of Love (Minnewater), a fairy-tale setting that combines natural serenity with medieval elegance. Next, we’ll visit the historic St. John’s Hospital, one of Europe’s oldest hospital complexes, as well as the Church of Our Lady, where Michelangelo’s famous sculpture “Madonna and Child” by Michelangelo, one of the artist’s very few works located outside Italy. Our stroll continues to the romantic St. Boniface Bridge, one of the most photographed spots in Bruges, and through the narrow cobblestone alleys that lead to the heart of the old town. We’ll admire the imposing City Hall, the medieval facades, and the canals that have earned the city the title of “Venice of the North.” You’ll have free time to soak up the atmosphere of Bruges, sample Belgian chocolate or waffles, visit a museum, go shopping, or, if you’d like, enjoy a romantic boat ride along the city’s tranquil canals. Late in the afternoon, we return to Brussels, filled with images and impressions from two unique cities in Flanders that combine history, architectural beauty, and a fairytale atmosphere.

DAY 5BRUSSELS - CITY TOUR - RETURN FLIGHT

Our last day begins in Brussels, with the feeling that we still have time to get to know Belgium’s capital better before our return flight. After breakfast and once we’ve packed our bags, we set out on our panoramic tour of the city’s most important sights. We’ll start with the iconic Atomium, one of Brussels’ most recognizable landmarks, which combines science, technology, and art into a striking architectural creation. Next, we’ll head to the Laeken area, where we’ll see the exterior of the Royal Palaces, the church of the same name, as well as the Japanese Tower and the Chinese Pagoda, features that lend the area a unique and exotic character. Our tour continues through the city’s elegant neighborhoods and to its major landmarks. We’ll pass through Grand Sablon Square, known for its atmosphere, elegant shops, and chocolate boutiques, and admire the Gothic Church of Our Lady of Sablon. We’ll also see the imposing Palace of Justice, one of Brussels’ most iconic buildings, as well as the area around the Museum of Fine Arts and Place Royale, near the Royal Palace. Next, we’ll explore the European Quarter, where the heart of the European institutions beats. Here you’ll find, among others, the European Council, the European Parliament, and the delegations of the European Union’s member states, giving the city the character of a true European capital. Our route continues past the Arc de Triomphe to the Cinquantenaire Park and the imposing Cathedral of Saints Michael and Gudula, before ending up once again in the historic center and the famous Grand Place. Brussels’ central square, with its impressive City Hall and ornate guild houses, is one of Europe’s most magnificent architectural ensembles and the perfect spot for our final photos. After our tour, we’ll have free time in downtown Brussels for a final stroll, some shopping, to enjoy a traditional meal, or to sample Belgian delicacies such as waffles, chocolate, and some of the famous Belgian beers. Later, we’ll head to Charleroi Airport, where we’ll catch our return flight.
