Paris | The Iron Lady

Christmas – New Year’s – Epiphany | 4, 5, or 6 days from Thessaloniki

Paris at Christmas. Perhaps the most dazzling version of the world’s most famous city.

There are cities worth visiting, and there are cities you have to experience. Paris belongs to the second category. During the Christmas, New Year’s, and Epiphany season, the “City of Light” shines even brighter: the grand boulevards are illuminated, the windows of historic department stores are transformed into festive displays, and the city’s elegant squares, cafés, and neighborhoods create a truly unique atmosphere. The Champs-Élysées are illuminated daily during the holiday season, while the festive atmosphere stretches from the Place Vendôme and Avenue Montaigne all the way to Montmartre. The city that has inspired writers, painters, poets, and thinkers is not limited to the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, or Notre-Dame. Each neighborhood has its own unique character, every street hides a story, and every new visit reveals a different Paris. This is precisely the philosophy behind our program: to explore the most important sights, but also to experience the city’s authentic atmosphere, while still having the necessary free time for our own choices. This approach is also reflected in the company’s current program, which emphasizes a combination of organized visits and personal time.

Field Trip Itinerary

DAY 1FLIGHT TO PARIS – PARIS BY NIGHT – CRUISE ON THE SEINE – MONTMARTRE

Meet at “Macedonia” Airport, go through security, and take a direct flight to Paris. Arrival in the French capital, meeting with our tour guide, and transfer to the hotel. Check-in and some time to rest. And because the first impression of a city is always unforgettable, for our first evening we invite you to join us on an optional nighttime tour of Paris illuminated by lights. We’ll start with a wonderful cruise on the Seine, one of the best ways to see the city from a completely different perspective. As the boat glides along the river, the Eiffel Tower, the historic bridges, the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, Notre-Dame, and some of the city’s most beautiful buildings. We’ll then continue by bus through festively lit Paris. We’ll travel along the city’s historic axis, seeing the Louvre, the Arc de Carrousel, the Place de la Concorde with the Luxor Obelisk, the glittering Champs-Élysées, and the Arc de Triomphe. During the holiday season, the famous Champs-Élysées is one of the most impressive sights in the French capital after sunset. Our evening will conclude in legendary Montmartre, the city’s highest natural point. We’ll stroll through the picturesque artists’ alleys, explore the Place du Tertre, and arrive at the majestic Sacré-Cœur Basilica, where the view of Paris all lit up is truly one of a kind. Return to the hotel and overnight stay.

DAY 2CITY TOUR – OPERA – PLACE VENDÔME – SORBONNE – LUXEMBOURG GARDENS – TROCADERO – EIFFEL TOWER – ARC DE TRIOMPHE – ELYSEES FIELDS – LOUVRE

Breakfast, and then we’ll set out on our grand tour of the most important sights of the City of Light. First up is the famous Opéra Garnier, one of Paris’s most impressive architectural landmarks. We continue on to the elegant Place Vendôme, with its luxury hotels and historic jewelry houses, and as we walk down Avenue de l’Opéra, we’ll arrive at the impressive grounds of the Louvre Museum, with its glass pyramid and the Carrousel Arch. We continue toward the Seine, the Île de la Cité, and the historic city center, and then head toward the famous Sorbonne University, the Panthéon, and the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens, where the Palace of Marie de’ Medici stands out—now the seat of the French Senate. We’ll pass through Saint-Germain-des-Prés and two of Paris’s most historic cafés, Les Deux Magots and the Café de Flore, which were associated with writers, artists, and the intellectuals of the 20th century. Our route continues toward the Musée d’Orsay, the French National Assembly, and the imposing Les Invalides, where Napoleon’s tomb is located. And we arrive at one of the highlights everyone looks forward to: the Trocadéro, with its classic panoramic view of the Eiffel Tower. Time for the obligatory photos, followed by a walk to the area around the Eiffel Tower and the Champ de Mars. Next up is the Arc de Triomphe and, of course, the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. During the holiday season, the Champs-Élysées, Avenue Montaigne, and the central districts of Paris are adorned with spectacular festive lights, creating a unique experience in and of themselves. We’ll also see the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais, cross the famous Alexandre III Bridge, and arrive at the Place de la Concorde, home to the Luxor Obelisk. Via the Madeleine, we’ll return to the Opera district, where we’ll have time for a first look at the famous department stores Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, which are attractions in their own right, especially during the Christmas season. This will be followed by an optional organized visit and guided tour of the Louvre Museum. The main focus is not on trying to see everything—which is practically impossible in a single visit—but on getting to know the most important masterpieces. In the Greek collection, we’ll see the Aphrodite of Milos and the unique Nike of Samothrace, and as we continue through the famous painting galleries, we’ll arrive at Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. We’ll explore important works from the Renaissance and Romanticism and see creations by artists who left their mark on European art history. After the tour, we’ll head to the Palais Royal, with its historic inner courtyard and elegant gardens. Free time. For the evening: we recommend returning to the Champs-Élysées and strolling along them this time without a set itinerary and without rushing. Start at the Arc de Triomphe and stroll down the illuminated avenue toward the Place de la Concorde. It’s one of those walks that explains all on its own why Paris is called the “City of Light.”

DAY 3DISNEYLAND PARIS – DISNEYLAND PARK

Breakfast, and today—if you’d like—join us in the magical world of Disneyland Paris for a full day at the famous Disneyland Park. During the Christmas season, the park takes on an even more fairy-tale-like atmosphere, with stunning festive decorations, music, shows, and beloved Disney characters creating a unique setting for young and old alike. Stroll down the famous Main Street, U.S.A., with the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle in the background, and discover the park’s various themed worlds. Experience the adventure of the Wild West on Big Thunder Mountain, journey into the world of Pirates of the Caribbean, follow Indiana Jones, fly with Peter Pan, explore the magical world of “It’s a Small World,” and enjoy some of Disneyland’s most famous attractions. During the day, you’ll have free time to explore the park at your own pace, enjoy the shows and parades, visit the shops, and have lunch at one of the many themed restaurants. A day full of color, music, imagination, and unforgettable sights. In the afternoon/evening, departure for Paris. For those who choose not to go to Disneyland, the day is free to discover even more of Paris. We recommend a visit to the Musée d’Orsay, with its unique collection of works by the great Impressionists, followed by a stroll through the charming Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood, with its historic cafés, chic boutiques, and quintessentially Parisian streets. Alternatively, you can visit the Musée de l’Orangerie, take a walk through the Tuileries Gardens, and continue on to the Place de la Concorde and the elegant Place Vendôme. For those who love shopping, the Boulevard Haussmann area, with the famous Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, is ideal for enjoying the city’s festive atmosphere.

DAY 4PARIS – NORMANDY COAST – HONFLEUR – TROUVILLE – DOVILLE

Breakfast, and today we’re switching things up completely. We’re leaving the big city behind for a day, and we invite you to join us on an optional full-day excursion to Normandy, one of the most beautiful and historic regions in France. Our first major stop is the beautiful Honfleur. Built around its picturesque old harbor, it looks like a movie set. Narrow, colorful houses, cobblestone streets, small galleries, cafés, and restaurants create one of Normandy’s most iconic scenes. The region’s unique light has inspired important painters and contributed to the city’s close connection to the history of Impressionism. We’ll explore the Vieux Bassin, the old harbor, stroll through the picturesque streets of the historic center, and visit the unique wooden church of Sainte-Catherine. Free time for a stroll, coffee, and local delicacies. Next, we’ll follow the beautiful route of the Côte Fleurie, the “Flowering Coast,” and pass through Trouville-sur-Mer —Trouville, the old seaside resort particularly beloved by painters and artists. A little later, we’ll arrive in cosmopolitan Deauville, the famous resort of the French elite, often called the “Monaco of the North.” With its elegant villas, luxurious hotels, historic casino, boutiques, and long beach, Deauville remains synonymous with French elegance. We’ll stroll along the famous seaside promenade Les Planches, associated with the renowned American Film Festival, and have free time to walk around and take photos. In the afternoon, we’ll depart for Paris. We’ll arrive in the evening and spend the night there. For those who choose not to join the Normandy tour, today offers the opportunity for a different full-day experience. Our first suggestion is the famous Palace of Versailles, with its royal apartments, the impressive Hall of Mirrors, and its unique gardens. Alternatively, you can spend the day in Montmartre, this time with more time to explore the narrow alleys behind the Sacré-Cœur, the artistic hangouts and the area’s characteristic cafés, and continue on to Pigalle. For something completely different, visit the modern La Défense district, with its skyscrapers and the Grande Arche, and combine it with a stroll through the Bois de Boulogne or a visit to the impressive Fondation Louis Vuitton.

DAY 5PARIS – FREE TIME – RETURN FLIGHT

Breakfast at the hotel and, depending on our flight time, some free time for a final stroll, a Parisian coffee, or some last-minute shopping and souvenirs. If you haven’t already, enjoy a French croissant, try some macarons, a hot chocolate, or an authentic French pastry, and sit for a while in a café, simply watching the city come to life around you. At the scheduled time, we’ll head to the airport for check-in, and return flight. We’ll return with our suitcases full of beautiful sights and memories of the illuminated Eiffel Tower, the Seine, Montmartre, the masterpieces of the Louvre, and the unique atmosphere of the City of Light.

Notes

  • For the 5-day program: the Paris Walking Tour takes place on the last day of the trip

  • On the 4-day itinerary: the optional excursion to Normandy does not take place, and the Paris Walking Tour takes place on the last day

  • The order of daily visits and tours may be adjusted to ensure the smoothest possible itinerary, depending on flight schedules, the days and hours of operation for museums and attractions, traffic conditions, and available booking times, without any substantial omissions from the itinerary.

  • Extra tip: During the holiday season, try the traditional Bûche de Noël, the famous marrons glacés, and, of course, a truly delicious French hot chocolate. It’s the little details that make a winter trip to Paris even more enjoyable.
