A unique five-day trip to northern Italy, specially designed for the period around October 28, combining the romance of Verona, the legend of Ferrari, the flavors of Italy’s Food Valley, the renowned wines of Valpolicella and Franciacorta, and some of the country’s most authentic historic cities. With exclusive direct charter flights by Aegean Airlines—departing in the morning for Bologna and returning in the evening from Bergamo—we make the most of all five days of our trip.
The star of the tour is Verona, a city where Roman history, medieval architecture, and romance coexist in a unique way. The imposing Arena, Piazza Bra, the colorful Piazza delle Erbe, Juliet’s Balcony, the bridges over the Adige River, and the atmospheric alleyways create one of Italy’s most beautiful historic centers. The city is also an ideal base for our excursions to Valpolicella and the neighboring regions. We’ll stay in Verona for four consecutive nights, without having to change hotels or lug our luggage around every day. This way, we’ll enjoy the comfort of staying in one place while maintaining a rich and varied daily itinerary.
Our journey begins in Bologna and continues to the heart of Italy’s Motor Valley. In Maranello, we’ll visit the legendary Ferrari Museum, a space dedicated to history, technology, and racing. We’ll tour historic Modena, explore Verona in depth, and travel to the vineyards of Valpolicella for an authentic wine-tasting experience centered on the renowned Amarone.
Our tour continues to Mantua, home of the Gonzaga family, with its Renaissance palaces and historic squares, and to Parma, the heart of Italy’s Food Valley and an internationally recognized city of gastronomy. Here, art and history come together with Parmigiano Reggiano, Prosciutto di Parma, and one of Italy’s most important culinary traditions.
We’ll also explore Brescia and the serene Lake Iseo, and we’ll wrap up our day in the hills of Franciacorta, with a visit to a winery and a tasting of the region’s famous sparkling wines. The lake and the vineyards form a particularly beautiful route, distinct from the better-known lakes of northern Italy.
Our final major stop before returning home will be Cremona, the city of Stradivari and the great Italian tradition of violin making. The journey concludes in the medieval Upper Town of Bergamo, protected by its impressive Venetian walls.

Meet at “Macedonia” Airport early in the morning on October 24 (Friday night into Saturday morning) and preparation for the direct, specially chartered Aegean Airlines flight. At 4:00 a.m., we’ll depart for Bologna. After arriving in the morning, after collecting our luggage and meeting with our agency’s tour guide, we’ll board the bus and begin our first exploration of the capital of Emilia-Romagna. We’ll head to Piazza Maggiore, the historic heart of Bologna, home to the Palazzo d’Accursio, the Palazzo del Podestà, and the imposing Basilica of San Petronio. We’ll see the famous Fountain of Neptune and stroll beneath the city’s distinctive arcades. We’ll continue on to the old Quadrilatero market, a lively neighborhood with traditional shops, small restaurants, and stalls filled with cured meats, cheese, fresh pasta, and products from Emilia-Romagna. There will be time for breakfast, an authentic Italian coffee, and a short stroll before we depart for Maranello, in the heart of Italy’s Motor Valley.
Upon arrival, we’ll visit the famous Ferrari Museum, an impressive space dedicated to the history, technology, and great racing successes of the legendary Italian company. In the museum’s galleries, we’ll see historic models, Formula 1 race cars, engines, trophies, and exhibits showcasing Ferrari’s evolution over the decades. There will be time for photos, shopping at the official store, and, depending on availability, a chance to try out a driving simulator. The visit and group services are by reservation only.
We will then depart for nearby Modena, an elegant city with a rich architectural, musical, and culinary heritage. Our walking tour will begin at Piazza Grande, the historic heart of the city. We’ll see the impressive Romanesque cathedral and the famous Ghirlandina Tower, Modena’s iconic symbol. We’ll stroll through the narrow streets of the historic center and pass through the traditional Albinelli market, a place brimming with local cured meats, cheeses, fresh pasta, and Modena’s famous balsamic vinegar. There will be free time for lunch, coffee, and shopping for traditional products, and later we’ll depart for Verona. Arrival at the hotel and check-in. In the evening, we recommend taking your first stroll on your own through the illuminated Piazza Bra and the atmospheric narrow streets of the historic center.
After breakfast, we’ll spend the entire day in Verona, one of Italy’s most beautiful, romantic, and best-preserved historic cities. Its Roman heritage, medieval palaces, Renaissance squares, and picturesque banks of the Adige River come together to form a unique urban landscape. Our tour of the city will begin with a panoramic view from the Castel San Pietro area, one of Verona’s most beautiful vantage points. From here, we’ll enjoy a unique view of the historic center, the Adige River, the bridges, the churches, and the city’s characteristic tiled roofs.
Next, we’ll head to the picturesque Ponte Pietra, the Roman bridge that connects the two banks of the river. From this area, we’ll see the Roman Theater and begin our walking tour through Verona’s historic alleyways. We’ll pass by the city’s cathedral and continue on to Piazza dei Signori, an elegant square surrounded by historic palaces and featuring a statue of Dante in its center. A short distance away are the impressive Scaliger Tombs, the ornate Gothic funerary monuments of the family that ruled Verona during the Middle Ages. Next is the famous Piazza delle Erbe, the city’s oldest square, built on the site of the ancient Roman forum. Colorful facades, historic mansions, outdoor stalls, cafes, and restaurants create one of Verona’s liveliest scenes. We’ll see the Lamberti Tower, the Palazzo Maffei, and the Madonna Verona Fountain.
Next, we’ll head to Via Cappello and the famous Juliet’s Court, which is linked to the timeless love story of Romeo and Juliet. We’ll see the iconic balcony and courtyard of this medieval building, which is now one of the city’s most famous landmarks. We’ll continue on to Via Mazzini, the elegant pedestrian shopping street lined with boutiques, international fashion brands, and historic buildings, ending at the impressive Piazza Bra. Here stands the famous Arena di Verona, the grand Roman amphitheater that is the city’s timeless symbol and continues to host major performances and concerts. We’ll also see the Palazzo Barbieri, the historic buildings surrounding the square, and the large promenade lined with cafés and restaurants.
Our tour will continue toward the imposing Castelvecchio, the medieval castle built on the banks of the Adige River, which served as a major defensive structure for the Scaliger family. We’ll walk across the impressive fortified Ponte Scaligero, where we’ll enjoy a beautiful view of the river, the city walls, and the historic center.
After the guided tour concludes, there will be plenty of free time for lunch and exploring. You can visit one of the city’s museums and monuments, go shopping on Via Mazzini and the surrounding shopping streets, or enjoy a coffee and a light meal in Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza Bra. Those who wish can take a walk along the banks of the Adige River, visit the Basilica of San Zeno, or head back up to Castel San Pietro at sunset, enjoying one of the city’s most beautiful panoramic views. In the afternoon, there will be time to relax at the hotel, and in the evening we recommend another outing to the illuminated historic center. Enjoy dinner at a traditional osteria, sample local dishes and regional wines, or soak up the atmosphere of Verona at one of the small wine bars around Piazza delle Erbe.
After breakfast, we will depart for the elegant city of Mantua, one of the most important Renaissance cities in northern Italy. The city developed around the court of the powerful Gonzaga family and boasts an impressive historic center with palaces, churches, medieval towers, and atmospheric squares.
Our tour will begin at Piazza Sordello, the city’s oldest and most monumental square. Here, the Cathedral and the Palazzo Ducale—the grand ducal palace complex of the Gonzaga family—dominate the scene. We’ll continue on to Piazza delle Erbe, home to the Palazzo della Ragione, the Clock Tower, and the small Rotonda di San Lorenzo. A little further on, we’ll admire the Basilica of Sant’Andrea with its imposing Renaissance façade. This route connects the main landmarks of Mantua’s historic center. There will be free time for coffee, photos, and a brief stroll on your own, after which we’ll depart for Parma.
Parma is an elegant city of art and music, as well as the heart of Italy’s Food Valley. It is associated with some of the most famous products of Italian cuisine, such as Parmigiano Reggiano and Prosciutto di Parma. Our walking tour will begin at Piazza Duomo, where the Cathedral and the impressive octagonal Baptistery made of pink marble stand out. We’ll continue toward the historic center, see the exterior of the Teatro Regio and the grand Palazzo della Pilotta complex, and end up at Piazza Garibaldi, the city’s central square.
There will be free time for lunch and a culinary exploration of Parma’s specialties. You can sample local cured meats, Parmigiano Reggiano, fresh pasta, and traditional dishes from Emilia-Romagna. Depending on the final itinerary and availability, an optional organized tasting of local products may be added at a selected venue in the historic center. Late in the afternoon, we’ll depart for our return to Verona. We’ll arrive in the evening, and you’ll have free time.
After breakfast, we’ll set off for Lombardy and historic Brescia, a city with significant remnants from the Roman, Medieval, Renaissance, and Venetian periods. We’ll begin our tour at Piazza della Loggia, the city’s most iconic Renaissance square. Here, the Palazzo della Loggia, with its marble facade, and the Clock Tower stand out. We’ll continue on to Piazza Paolo VI, home to the Old and New Cathedrals, and stroll through the pedestrian streets of the historic center. Depending on the time available, we’ll visit the area of the Roman archaeological complex. There will be free time for coffee and photos, and then we’ll depart for Lake Iseo.
Smaller and more tranquil than most of the well-known lakes of northern Italy, Lake Iseo is surrounded by lush green hills, vineyards, and picturesque lakeside villages. We’ll visit the town of Iseo and take a walk along the lakeside promenade and through its historic center. From the shore, we’ll enjoy the view of Monte Isola, the large inhabited island that dominates the center of the lake. There will be free time for lunch, coffee, and photos before we continue on to the hills of Franciacorta.
The Franciacorta region is known for its vineyards, small villages, and long tradition of sparkling wine production. We’ll visit a select winery and tour the production facilities and cellars. We’ll learn about the production and aging methods, followed by a tasting of selected Franciacorta wines, paired with local specialties. The region’s official wine route connects the vineyards, villages, open-to-the-public cellars, and Lake Iseo. After the tour, we’ll depart for Verona. We’ll arrive in the evening, and you’ll have free time for your final night out in the city.
After breakfast and checking out of our rooms, we’ll say goodbye to Verona and head to Cremona, a city whose name is closely associated with music, the violin, and the great tradition of Italian instrument-making. Our tour will focus on Piazza del Comune, one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Lombardy. We’ll see the Cathedral, the octagonal Baptistery, the Palazzo Comunale, and the imposing Torrazzo—one of northern Italy’s most distinctive towers—with its large astronomical clock. We’ll stroll through Piazza Stradivari and the narrow streets of the historic center, where traditional workshops for crafting stringed musical instruments are still in operation. We recommend a visit to the Violin Museum or a luthier’s workshop. The museum showcases Cremona’s close connection to the art of violin-making and features historical artifacts, a reconstruction of a workshop, and significant collections of instruments. There will be free time for coffee, lunch, and a stroll on your own, after which we will depart for Bergamo.
Upon arrival, we’ll head up to the historic Città Alta, the impressive Upper Town, which is surrounded by Venetian walls. We’ll stroll through the picturesque cobblestone alleys and reach Piazza Vecchia, the heart of the old town. We’ll see the Contarini Fountain, the Palazzo della Ragione, and the Campanone Tower. We’ll then proceed to Piazza Duomo, home to the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the ornate Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, and the impressive Colleoni Chapel. The Città Alta is the historic heart of Bergamo and is protected by the Venetian walls that surround the Upper Town.
In the evening, at the scheduled time, we’ll depart for Bergamo Airport and board our return flight. Arrival at “Macedonia” Airport, filled with unique sights and experiences from romantic Verona, Ferrari, the historic cities, and the authentic flavors of northern Italy.
