Staying in the heart of Florence With exclusive direct charter flights from Aegean Airlines A unique journey to the heart of the Renaissance

There are places you simply visit, and places that captivate you from the very first moment. Tuscany undoubtedly belongs to the latter category. It is the land where the Renaissance was born, where art, architecture, history, and unparalleled natural beauty coexist in harmony, creating one of Europe’s most captivating destinations. For the period of October 28, we’ve planned a comprehensive five-day itinerary that combines everything that makes Tuscany special. From majestic Florence and the medieval towns of the inland region to the colorful villages of the Cinque Terre, historic Pisa, charming Lucca, and the cosmopolitan cities of northern Italy—every day is filled with sights, experiences, and authentic Italian flavors. With Aegean Airlines’ exclusive direct charter flights—arriving in Bologna in the morning and returning from Bergamo in the evening— we make the most of all five days of our trip, without unnecessary travel or wasted time.

The most significant advantage of this itinerary is our stay in Florence, the undisputed capital of Tuscany and one of the world’s most important cities of art. For four consecutive nights, we’ll immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of the Renaissance, with the opportunity to enjoy not only the city’s most important landmarks during our tours, but also its enchanting evening scenery, when the squares, churches, and the Ponte Vecchio are illuminated, creating a truly unique setting.

During our stay, we’ll explore Florence’s most important sights. We’ll stroll through Piazza del Duomo, admire the imposing Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore with its famous Brunelleschi dome, visit the historic Piazza della Signoria, in front of the Palazzo Vecchio and the Loggia dei Lanzi, cross the iconic Ponte Vecchio, and tour the historic neighborhoods associated with the Medici, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the most important figures of the Renaissance.

We’ll also travel to medieval Siena, one of Italy’s best-preserved historic cities; we’ll pass through the famous Chianti region with its vineyards and cypress trees, visit a traditional winery for a wine tasting and sampling of local products, and stroll through the cobblestone alleys of the fairytale-like San Gimignano, with its distinctive stone towers that have dominated the horizon for centuries.

At the same time, those who wish to do so will have the opportunity to join a special optional excursion to the famous Cinque Terre and the idyllic Portovenere, two of Italy’s most beautiful coastal destinations. Colorful houses perched on the cliffs, small picturesque harbors, crystal-clear waters, and the unique view of the Ligurian Sea create scenes that are hard to forget.

Our journey continues to historic Pisa and the famous Piazza dei Miracoli, and we’ll also explore charming Lucca, one of Europe’s best-preserved walled cities, with its Renaissance walls, atmospheric squares, and cobblestone alleys.

Before our trip comes to an end, we’ll visit Modena, the birthplace of the famous traditional balsamic vinegar, and then the cosmopolitan city of Milan, where we’ll tour Piazza del Duomo, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and Piazza della Scala, before heading to Bergamo Airport for our return flight.

A tour featuring direct Aegean flights and a stay in Florence, combining the magic of the Renaissance, the authentic flavors of Tuscany, the unique scenery of the Italian Riviera, and the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Milan, offering a complete travel experience you’ll never forget.

Field Trip Itinerary

DAY 1DIRECT FLIGHT WITH AEGEAN AIRLINES TO BOLOGNA – FLORENCE – FULL CITY TOUR

We’ll meet at “Macedonia” Airport in the early morning hours and board the exclusive direct charter flight operated by Aegean Airlines bound for Bologna. After our arrival, collecting our luggage, and meeting our tour guide, we depart immediately for Florence, the city that changed the course of European art and culture and is rightly considered the birthplace of the Renaissance.

Our first stop will be at the famous Piazzale Michelangelo, the city’s most well-known panoramic viewpoint. From here, we’ll enjoy a unique view of the historic center, the Arno River, the Ponte Vecchio, the Palazzo Vecchio, and Brunelleschi’s impressive dome, one of the most significant architectural achievements of all time.

Next, we’ll head to the historic Santa Croce district, where our walking tour of Florence begins. We’ll walk through the narrow cobblestone streets and arrive at the imposing Piazza del Duomo, dominated by the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Baptistery of St. John, and Giotto’s famous bell tower.

Our tour continues along Via dei Calzaiuoli, the city’s most historic shopping street, which leads to Piazza della Signoria, the political and artistic heart of Florence. Here we’ll admire the Palazzo Vecchio, the Loggia dei Lanzi, and the Fountain of Neptune, while learning about the history of the Medici, the most powerful family that shaped the city’s destiny.

A short while later, we’ll find ourselves in front of the famous Uffizi Gallery and along the banks of the Arno, eventually arriving at the iconic Ponte Vecchio, the city’s only medieval bridge that still houses historic goldsmiths’ and jewelers’ workshops to this day.

After our guided tour, there will be plenty of free time for lunch, shopping, coffee, or a first chance to experience the city’s unique atmosphere on your own.

In the afternoon, we’ll head to our hotel in Florence to check into our rooms and rest a bit.

In the evening, we recommend enjoying Florence the way Italians themselves do: with a leisurely stroll along the illuminated banks of the Arno, an authentic aperitivo in one of the historic squares, and dinner at a traditional trattoria. The nighttime view of the Ponte Vecchio and the historic center is one of the most beautiful experiences Tuscany has to offer.

DAY 2FLORENCE – SIENA – CHIANTI – VISIT TO A TRADITIONAL WINERY – SAN GIMIGNANO

After our hearty breakfast at the hotel, we set out for one of the most authentic and charming days of our trip, dedicated to the heart of Tuscany. Today we’ll discover three of the region’s most iconic sights: medieval Siena, the famous vineyards of Chianti, and the fairy-tale town of San Gimignano.

As we leave Florence behind, the route reveals the authentic Tuscan landscape. Gentle hills, endless vineyards, silvery-green olive groves, majestic cypress trees, and stone farmhouses come together to create scenes that look as if they were taken from a painting. It is no coincidence that this region is considered one of the most beautiful rural routes in Europe.

Our first stop is the elegant city of Siena, one of Italy’s most important medieval cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city has preserved its medieval appearance almost intact and impresses with its unique architecture and distinctive atmosphere.

Our tour begins in the narrow, cobblestone alleys of the old town, winding through the famous Contrade, the historic neighborhoods that to this day form the heart and soul of Siena and take center stage at the famous Palio horse race.

We’ll end up in the impressive Piazza del Campo, perhaps Italy’s most famous medieval square. With its distinctive shell-like shape, it’s the lively heart of the city. Here, the imposing Palazzo Pubblico and the towering Torre del Mangia dominate the scene; for centuries, the latter has symbolized Siena’s power and independence.

Our tour continues to the majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, one of the most important masterpieces of Italian Gothic architecture. Its striking black-and-white marble façade, intricate sculptures, and lavish interior decoration bear witness to the wealth and prosperity the city enjoyed during the Middle Ages.

This will be followed by free time for coffee, photos, shopping, or a leisurely stroll through the city’s picturesque streets.

We’ll then head to the famous Chianti region, home to one of Italy’s most renowned wines. The drive through the vineyards and traditional estates is a unique experience in itself, as every turn reveals new views of the authentic Tuscan countryside.

We’ll visit a traditional winery, where we’ll learn about the production and aging process of the famous Chianti wines. We’ll tour the estate and the cellars, where hundreds of oak barrels house the wines as they age using traditional methods.

This will be followed by a tasting of select wines, paired with local products such as extra virgin olive oil, cured meats, traditional cheeses, and freshly baked Tuscan bread, offering us an authentic culinary experience.

Refreshed, we continue on to San Gimignano, one of Italy’s most impressive medieval fortified towns, known throughout the world as the “City of Towers.” From a distance, the stone towers rising above its walls create a scene that seems to have remained unchanged for seven centuries.

Entering through the medieval gate, we’ll walk along Via San Giovanni, past stone mansions, small workshops selling local products, and traditional shops. We’ll arrive at the atmospheric Piazza della Cisterna, with its distinctive stone well at its center—one of the most photographed squares in Italy.

Our tour continues to Piazza del Duomo, where the Cathedral, the Palazzo Comunale, and the famous medieval towers—which have given the city its unique character—dominate the scene.

You’ll have plenty of free time to wander through the picturesque alleys, try the world-renowned, award-winning gelato, seek out the local white wine Vernaccia di San Gimignano, do some shopping, or simply enjoy the unique atmosphere of this medieval town.

Late in the afternoon, we’ll head back to Florence. The evening is free for you to enjoy the city’s unique atmosphere once again. We recommend a stroll through the cosmopolitan Piazza della Repubblica, an aperitivo in the atmospheric Piazza Santo Spirito, or a romantic stroll along the banks of the Arno, with the illuminated Ponte Vecchio creating a scene that will remain etched in your memory.

DAY 3FULL-DAY EXCURSION TO THE CINQUE TERRE & ENCHANTING PORTOVENERE

After breakfast, today offers you the chance to either enjoy Florence at your own pace or take part in one of Italy’s most impressive optional excursions, to the world-famous Cinque Terre and the enchanting Portovenere, a site listed among UNESCO’s most important World Heritage Sites.

For those who choose this excursion, we’ll depart early in the morning from Florence, heading to La Spezia, the natural gateway to the Cinque Terre and the famous Gulf of Poets, which captivated figures such as Lord Byron and Percy Shelley.

Upon arrival, we’ll board the boat that will take us on a unique sea journey along the rugged Ligurian coastline. From the sea, we’ll enjoy the most beautiful panoramic view of the famous villages of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso al Mare, which seem to hover atop the cliffs, nestled among terraced vineyards and the endless blue of the Ligurian Sea.

Our first stop will be Monterosso al Mare, the largest and most cosmopolitan of the five villages. We’ll stroll through the picturesque alleys of the historic center, explore the seaside promenade, and have plenty of free time for lunch, coffee, or a leisurely walk by the sea. Here you can sample authentic Genovese pesto, fresh seafood, focaccia, and local wines while enjoying the unique atmosphere of the Italian Riviera.

We then board the boat again, heading for the idyllic Portovenere, one of Italy’s most romantic seaside villages. The distinctive colorful houses overlooking the harbor, the narrow medieval streets, and the impressive Church of St. Peter, built on the cliff, create a setting of unique beauty.

We’ll walk along the seaside promenade, pass through the town’s medieval gate, and stroll through the picturesque alleys, enjoying a breathtaking view of Palmaria Island and the turquoise waters of Liguria. There will be time for photos, shopping, or a coffee by the harbor before we board the boat again for our return to La Spezia.

After the cruise, we’ll meet our bus and depart for Florence.

We’ll arrive in the evening, and you’ll have free time to enjoy one more stroll through the city’s illuminated streets. Florence, with its historic monuments, elegant squares, and the banks of the Arno, takes on a truly unique atmosphere after sunset.

DAY 4FLORENCE – LUCCA – PISA – FLORENCE

After breakfast, we depart for western Tuscany and the charming city of Lucca, one of Italy’s best-preserved Renaissance cities.

Its historic center is surrounded by imposing 16th-century walls, which remain intact and today offer one of the most beautiful walks in Europe. We’ll enter the old town and stroll through its cobblestone alleys, experiencing the authentic character of a city that has retained its charm unchanged for centuries.

We’ll see the impressive Cathedral of San Martino, the Church of San Michele in Foro—which stands on the site of the ancient Roman forum—as well as the famous Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, one of Italy’s most iconic squares, built on the foundations of an ancient Roman amphitheater.

Our tour continues along Via Fillungo, the city’s most famous shopping street, and we’ll also see the famous Guinigi Tower, at the top of which stand centuries-old oak trees, creating one of Italy’s most unique gardens.

There will be free time for coffee, shopping, or a short stroll along the Renaissance walls, enjoying the view of the city’s rooftops and towers.

We then depart for historic Pisa, one of the most important maritime republics of the Middle Ages.

The first sight that greets visitors in the famous Piazza dei Miracoli is truly breathtaking. The imposing Cathedral, the striking Baptistery, the Camposanto, and, of course, the world-famous Leaning Tower of Pisa together form one of Europe’s most significant architectural complexes.

We’ll learn about the history of these monuments, and there will be plenty of free time for photos, exploring on your own, or—for those who have booked in advance—a climb up the famous Leaning Tower.

Early in the afternoon, we’ll return to Florence.

The rest of the day is yours to enjoy as you wish. Make the most of your last evening in the capital of Tuscany with one more stroll through its historic alleys, for shopping on the elegant shopping streets, for an authentic Italian aperitivo, or for dinner at a traditional trattoria.

The nighttime view of the Ponte Vecchio, the Arno River, and the Renaissance squares provides the perfect finale to our stay in Florence.

DAY 5FLORENCE – MILAN – BERGAMO – RETURN FLIGHT

After breakfast and checking out of our rooms, we say goodbye to Florence, with just a little time left to enjoy the city’s final sights before continuing our journey to northern Italy.

We set off for cosmopolitan Milan, Italy’s economic and commercial capital, as well as one of the world’s leading centers of fashion and design.

Our tour begins at the impressive Piazza del Duomo, dominated by the famous Gothic Milan Cathedral, one of the largest and most impressive religious monuments in Europe.

Next, we’ll walk through the glittering Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, with its glass dome, its historic cafés, and the luxury boutiques of Italy’s leading fashion houses, before ending up at Piazza della Scala, home to the legendary Teatro alla Scala, one of the world’s most important opera houses.

You’ll have free time for some last-minute shopping, a coffee, or a leisurely stroll through the elegant streets of the historic center.

Late in the afternoon, we’ll head to Bergamo Airport, where we’ll board our direct return flight to Thessaloniki.

We return with our minds filled with unforgettable images of enchanting Florence, the lush green landscapes of Tuscany, the colorful villages of the Cinque Terre, and the most notable cities of northern Italy, having enjoyed an authentic travel experience that combines culture, history, gastronomy, and unparalleled natural beauty.
