Press PAUSE and head to Indonesia! “How much would I love to drop everything and head to an exotic destination?” Many people have thought about this, and believe us, it’s not at all difficult to make it a reality. Bali, with its endless rice paddies glistening in the sunlight and its artistic traditions evident in every corner, captivates you from the very first moment. Despite its worldwide fame, the “Island of the Gods” retains a spirituality that you feel deeply, whether you’re walking through one of its countless temples or watching a traditional Kecak dance against the backdrop of the sunset. And as if that weren’t enough, there are also the Gili Islands. Three tiny islands on the map, but with huge character. On Gili Air, you’ll find the perfect balance of beach bars, wooden bungalows, and delightful snorkeling spots. Gili Meno is quiet and romantic, and there you can admire the famous underwater statues. If you’re lucky, you’ll swim with sea turtles, see colorful coral reefs, and bike against a turquoise backdrop. Whatever you’re looking for in a trip—whether it’s adventure, relaxation, culture, or simply reconnecting with yourself—this corner of the world has it all.

Field Trip Itinerary

DAY 1September 19 | Departure for Bali

“I’d give my life for that” is something you’ll hear often before and after this trip, from friends and acquaintances. So the day has finally come for you to make a dream that many people share come true. To travel to an exotic destination. You’ve been feeling the excitement build since this morning, knowing that in just a few hours you’ll be boarding a plane bound for the other side of the world. You check your passport, pack the last few items in your suitcase, and head to the airport with a big smile. At the airport, you meet the rest of your fellow travelers, who, like you, share the same anticipation, the same thirst for sights, experiences, and carefree moments. You may not realize it yet, but on this trip you’ll experience moments you’ll remember for years to come. You’ll laugh, you’ll be surprised, you’ll relax, and you’ll discover yourself in ways you never expected. You board the plane, find your seat, and somewhere up there among the clouds, a new story begins to unfold. During the flight, you’ll have time to flip through a travel guide, watch a movie, gaze out the window, or simply let yourself be carried away by the idea that for the next few days, you have nothing to do… except live in the moment.

DAY 2September 20 | Arrival in Denpasar – Ubud – Balinese massage

We arrive at Denpasar Airport in the morning. As soon as we pick up our luggage and complete the visa procedures, we board our bus and head north toward Ubud. We check in at the hotel, and after resting from the long journey, we’ll have free time for a leisurely stroll through picturesque Ubud, sample local flavors at a restaurant, and get a first taste of the authentic Balinese atmosphere. It’s the perfect opportunity to ease into our new surroundings, unwind, and recharge for the adventures that begin tomorrow! To wrap up the day, we’d recommend trying an authentic Balinese massage.

DAY 3September 21 | Tirta Empul Temple - Tegalalang - Cretya Ubud

We’re starting early because we want you to see as much as possible. Our first stop is the Holy Spring Temple. For over a thousand years, Hindus in Bali have been visiting Pura Tirta Empul because they believed that its sacred springs, created by the god Indra, possess healing properties. This tradition remains virtually unchanged to this day, and now, in addition to the faithful, travelers from all over the world come to this place to admire its beauty and take a dip in the blessed water. If you’d like, you can also take part in this ritual for an additional fee. We’ll continue on to the famous Tegalalang rice terraces, where we’ll take a short walk. It’s located on the north side of Ubud, about a 20-minute drive away. If you type “Bali” into a search engine, you’ll see dreamy photos of swings set against a lush green backdrop. Of course, you’ll have the chance to take a photo like that yourself!! Our last stop is Cretya Ubud, where you’ll have the chance to relax. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the rice paddies, the three turquoise-colored pools, and try smoothies made with local fruits or cocktails.

DAY 4September 22 | Lempuyang Temple

One of the most famous photos you’ve seen of Bali was taken at the magnificent Lempuyang Temple, in eastern Bali. The photos you’ll take here will be unbelievably beautiful, and needless to say, every time you look at them after we return, you won’t believe the beauty you witnessed on this trip! However, to capture these photos, you’ll have to wake up very early and skip breakfast, and the wait for that coveted shot is long. So, if you’re not up for the hassle, you might want to reconsider and spend your free time in Ubud instead. Along the way, we’ll pass through vast stretches of beautiful, unspoiled rice paddies and admire breathtaking mountains. There’s a reason this temple is known as the Gate to Heaven. Your local guide will explain the history of this ancient temple, as well as the religious culture of the locals.

DAY 5September 23 | Monkey Forest - Kanto Lampo - Uluwatu

Today, after breakfast, our first stop will be the Monkey Forest, home to a large population of macaques. The forest is located within the village of Padangtegal, to which it belongs. The villagers consider the Monkey Forest an important spiritual, economic, and educational center for the village. In addition to about 700 monkeys, you can also see 186 species of trees across 12.5 hectares of forest, where you’ll enjoy plenty of fresh air. We’ll continue on to a waterfall—Kanto Lampo—that you’ve probably seen on Instagram. Located in the village of Beng, this natural wonder has attracted many travelers thanks to its unique rock formations, the flow of the water, and the lush vegetation. Kanto Lampo gets its name from the surrounding native trees. Nearby, you’ll find restrooms and changing rooms. The natural pool at the base of the waterfall is relatively small, but you can take a dip. Our final stop for today is the Uluwatu Temple, also known as Pura Luhur Uluwatu. It’s known for its magnificent location, perched on a sheer cliff, about 70 meters above the waves. It is one of the six main temples considered to be the spiritual pillars of Bali. Pura Luhur Uluwatu is definitely one of the best places in Bali to watch a magnificent sunset, overlooking the beautiful waves of the Indian Ocean and featuring daily Kecak dance performances held in a nearby amphitheater. The Balinese architecture, traditionally designed gates, and ancient sculptures create a magnificent setting.

DAY 6September 24 | Gili Trawangan

The adventure to the Gili Islands begins while the morning chill still lingers over Uluwatu. Around 7:00 a.m., you’ll hop in the car for the drive to the port of Padang Bai, crossing the island just as Bali is waking up. The drive takes about 2 hours (depending on traffic), and it’s essential to arrive on time, as the speedboats depart within a strict time window between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. As soon as you arrive at the port, the hustle and bustle of the mainland gives way to the sea breeze. You board the speedboat and for the next 1.5 to 2 hours, you cut through the deep blue waters of the Indian Ocean, leaving the coast of Bali behind. The boat docks directly at the main pier of Gili Trawangan, right in the heart of the island. The moment you set foot on the wooden pier, time seems to stand still. Your first sensation is an unusual sense of peace. The noise of engines has vanished, as cars and motorcycles are banned on the island. In their place, you hear the rhythmic clatter of horses’ hooves on the traditional carriages (Cidomo) and the jingle of bicycle bells. The bohemian atmosphere, the glistening white sand, and the palm trees hugging the shore immediately sweep you into a rhythm of absolute freedom. Every minute of the morning ride is worth it the moment you realize you’re in an earthly paradise where your only obligation is to relax.

DAY 7September 25 | Gili Meno - Gili Air

Today, the itinerary is intentionally left open so you can tailor it to your liking. Based on Gili Trawangan, you have the option to hop on one of the boats offering “Island Hopping” and explore the two neighboring paradises, Gili Meno and Gili Air. The great advantage of this day is that there are no restrictions. You can stay on each island for as long as you like. If you’re enchanted by the otherworldly tranquility of Gili Meno, you can spend your time there swimming past the famous underwater statues or searching for sea turtles in its crystal-clear waters. If, on the other hand, you prefer the more laid-back vibe of Gili Air, you can relax at one of the beachfront cafes with your feet in the sand, enjoying your meal without watching the clock. It’s a day dedicated to your own exploration. Whether you choose to visit all three islands, taking time to swim and take photos on each one, or decide to “put down roots” on a lounge chair on Gili Air for the entire afternoon, the choice is yours. The distances are so short that moving from one dream to the next takes just a few minutes, giving you the freedom to set the pace of your vacation yourself.

DAY 8September 26 | Gili Trawangan - Day off

You have another whole day off to enjoy the island’s completely laid-back pace. You wake up without an alarm, enjoy your breakfast overlooking the endless blue sea, and spend the rest of the day swimming, reading on the beach, or getting a relaxing massage while listening to the waves. In fact, since you explored the neighboring islets the day before, today you have complete freedom, if you like, to take the boat again and return for a few hours to whichever of the two (Gili Meno or Gili Air) you liked best! You can explore the island’s quietest trails and, in the evening, enjoy a dinner of fresh fish and seafood right on the sand, under the starlight.

DAY 9September 27 | Return to Bali – Seminyak

Your last day in the paradise of the Gili Islands gets off to a leisurely start. You’ll have time for one last dip in the crystal-clear waters, a short bike ride, or a final coffee by the sea to bid farewell to the islands’ tranquility. Then, we board the speedboat and head off to Bali! As soon as we arrive at the port, our driver will be waiting to take us to Seminyak, the island’s most cosmopolitan and vibrant area. Seminyak is a mix of top-notch beach clubs, sophisticated restaurants, and an endless sandy beach teeming with life. Here, the sunset is a ritual. The lounge chairs fill up, the music gets louder, and the sky is painted with the most vibrant colors. It’s the perfect place to wrap up our trip in style, doing some last-minute shopping or enjoying a cocktail by the water. Tonight we’ll be staying in Seminyak.

DAY 10September 28 | Return to Greece

Our last day in Indonesia begins with the sound of the Indian Ocean and the sweet melancholy that always comes with the end of a great adventure. But we’re not leaving just yet! We still have time in Seminyak to soak up every last bit of this paradise. It’s time for that final brunch at one of the area’s super-stylish cafés, to do some last-minute shopping for handmade items and souvenirs that will remind us of the trip, or simply for one last stroll along the sandy beach. Late in the afternoon, we pack not only our suitcases but also countless memories of stunning landscapes, the smiles of the locals, and turquoise waters. We head to Denpasar Airport to catch our return flight. We leave Indonesia behind, but we take with us a new version of ourselves—more fulfilled and more daring. The plane takes off, and we’re already whispering, “Until we meet again.” Our journey back to Greece begins, but our hearts will remain for a long time somewhere between Bali and the Gili Islands…
