Field Trip Itinerary

DAY 1DEPARTURE FLIGHT - PAPHOS – PETRA TOU ROMIOU - KOURIO - KOLOSSI - LIMASSOL

We’ll meet early in the morning at “Macedonia” Airport, and after completing the necessary departure formalities, we’ll board our direct flight to beautiful Cyprus. Our arrival in Paphos marks the beginning of a journey filled with history, sights, legends, and Mediterranean charm. There, our local guide will welcome us, and we’ll immediately begin our exploration of the island of Aphrodite. Our first stop is the iconic Petra tou Romiou, one of Cyprus’s most photographed and legendary landmarks. According to mythology, the goddess Aphrodite emerged here from the sea foam, bestowing upon the place an unparalleled aura of romance and beauty. The rugged landscape, the rocky formations, and the azure waters create a magical setting, ideal for our first photos and for feeling the island’s unique energy from the very first moment. We then head to the impressive archaeological site of Kourion, one of Cyprus’s most significant ancient city-kingdoms. Built in a prime location overlooking the sea, Kourion perfectly combines historical significance with natural beauty. During our tour, we will learn about the site’s history, see the famous ancient theater, the remains of public and private buildings, and be transported back in time to an era of prosperity, trade, and culture. Our journey continues through fertile regions dotted with vineyards, orchards, and farmlands, revealing another, more authentic side of the Cypriot landscape. Next stop is Kolossi, where the famous Tower of the Knights stands out, a medieval fortress of particular historical significance, inextricably linked to the era of the Crusaders and the Knights of St. John in Cyprus. Its imposing structure and the atmosphere of the place transport us to an era of knights, kingdoms, and strategic conquests. We then depart for Limassol, one of Cyprus’s liveliest and most cosmopolitan cities. Arrival at the hotel and check-in. The rest of the day is free for a first exploration of the city. You can take a stroll along the seaside promenade, enjoy a coffee with a view of the sea, or explore the beautiful spots in the city center, soaking up the warmth of Cypriot hospitality.

DAY 2Full-Day Excursion to Mount Troodos – Platres – Omodos – Kykkos Monastery

After breakfast at the hotel, we set off for one of the most memorable days of the trip, dedicated to the mountainous regions of Cyprus, the island’s natural beauty, and its authentic traditions. Today’s route will take us away from the cosmopolitan coast and bring us closer to the lush green heart of Cyprus. Our first destination is the famous Platres, one of the island’s most beautiful mountain resorts. Set amidst lush greenery, with flowing streams, shaded paths, plane trees, and a cool climate, Platres has been a beloved vacation and inspiration spot for decades. The village exudes serenity, elegance, and a special sense of calm, while its natural beauty makes it ideal for a leisurely stroll and beautiful photos. We continue our ascent toward the majestic Troodos Mountains, Cyprus’s largest mountain range and a place of unique ecological and cultural value. Along the way, we’ll enjoy breathtaking views of pine forests, mountain slopes, traditional settlements, and panoramic views, revealing a different, cooler, and more authentic Cyprus. Our next stop is the beautiful Omodos, one of the island’s most famous traditional villages. With its stone-built houses, cobblestone alleys, flower-filled courtyards, and distinctive architecture, the village immediately enchants visitors. Here, time seems to pass more slowly, and every corner exudes the tradition of the Cypriot countryside. We will visit the historic Church of the Holy Cross, one of the region’s most significant religious sites, and then have time to stroll through the village square and its cobblestone streets. During our free time, you’ll have the chance to experience local products and traditional flavors firsthand, visit small shops selling handmade items, lace, spoon sweets, local wines, and other authentic Cypriot products. Omodos is a place that offers not only sights, but also scents, flavors, and a warm sense of hospitality. Our excursion culminates with a visit to the legendary Kykkos Monastery, one of Cyprus’s most famous, historic, and significant monasteries. Built in a stunning location deep within the mountain, the monastery is a landmark of the island’s religious life and is steeped in a deep spiritual tradition. We will admire its imposing katholikon, the intricate mosaics, the interior decorations, and the monastic atmosphere that evokes a sense of awe and emotion. Kykkos Monastery is not only a religious monument but also a site of great artistic and historical value. Late in the afternoon, we return to Limassol, our minds filled with images of the mountainous landscape, the traditional villages, and the spiritual heritage of Cyprus.

DAY 3FREE DAY IN LIMASSOL OR DAY TRIP TO NICOSIA – TOMB OF Makedonitissa - Lefkara - Museum of Embroidery & Silversmithing

After breakfast, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy Limassol at your own pace. For those who wish to explore even more of the island, we recommend an excellent optional full-day excursion to Nicosia and the picturesque village of Lefkara. Our first stop is the Macedonitissa Tomb, the official military memorial of the Republic of Cyprus. It is a place of great symbolism, deep historical memory, and national emotion, dedicated to those who fell during the Cypriot tragedy. A visit here offers a powerful experience and a significant reminder of the region’s historical journey. We continue on to Nicosia, Europe’s only divided capital, a city with a unique character where the past and present coexist vividly. We will see the Archbishop’s Palace and St. John’s Cathedral, two sites of great religious, historical, and cultural significance for Cyprus. Next, we’ll tour the atmospheric Laiki Neighborhood, a part of the old city that has retained its traditional character. The narrow streets, restored buildings, small shops, and neighborhoods transport visitors to another era. A stroll here is full of color, local character, and an authentic Cypriot atmosphere. Next, spend some time on bustling Ledra Street, one of the city’s most famous and commercial thoroughfares. Shops, cafes, a multicultural atmosphere, and a vibrant energy make up one of the most interesting corners of the capital. Here we’ll have free time for a stroll, shopping, and lunch. Leaving Nicosia behind, we continue to the beautiful village of Lefkara, one of Cyprus’s most famous traditional settlements. Lefkara is world-renowned for its unique Lefkaritika embroidery, an art form passed down from generation to generation and a valuable part of the region’s cultural heritage. The village is built in an amphitheater-like layout, with picturesque narrow streets, stone-built houses, and a distinctive aesthetic that leaves a lasting impression. During our stay, we will visit the Embroidery and Silversmithing Museum, where we will learn firsthand about the history of local crafts, the intricate patterns, and the tradition of silversmithing that has brought the village international renown. We will also have time to explore and shop in an authentically traditional setting that fully lives up to its reputation. In the afternoon, we return to our hotel in Limassol.

The landscape of the salt flats, with the expanse of water and the tranquility of the area, creates a distinctive and characteristic view of the region. It is one of the city’s most famous natural attractions and a spot that offers beautiful views and a sense of tranquility. DAY 5LEMESOS – KINGS’ TOMBS – PAPHOS – RETURN FLIGHT

After breakfast at the hotel, we bid farewell to Limassol and set off for historic and atmospheric Paphos, one of the most important archaeological and cultural destinations in the entire Mediterranean. Paphos is a city where myth, antiquity, Christianity, and Mediterranean beauty coexist in a unique blend. First visit to the famous Tombs of the Kings, one of Cyprus’s most significant monuments. These underground rock-cut tombs, carved into the rock and dating back to the 4th century BC, are impressive both for their architecture and their monumental atmosphere. Although they did not house kings, their grandeur gave the site the name by which it became known worldwide. We continue with a visit to the archaeological site of the House of Dionysus, where we will admire the famous mosaic floors, among the most significant examples of Roman art in the eastern Mediterranean. The depictions, the details, and their exceptional preservation reveal the wealth, aesthetics, and high cultural level of another era. Next, we will visit the Ancient Odeon, a site that bears witness to Paphos’s great cultural heyday, as well as the Column of St. Paul, one of the island’s most important Christian pilgrimage sites, near the church of Panagia Chrysopolitissa. According to tradition, this is where the Apostle Paul was martyred during his visit to Cyprus, linking the site to one of the most significant chapters in early Christian history. Our tour concludes at the picturesque port of Paphos, one of the city’s most beautiful and bustling spots. With the distinctive medieval castle, cafes, restaurants, and the sea breeze as a backdrop, the harbor is the ideal spot for our final strolls, photos, and souvenir shopping.
