Field Trip Itinerary

DAY 1FLIGHT TO ROME - ROME WALKING TOUR - COLOSSEUM - PIAZZA VENEZIA - PANTHEON - PIAZZA DI SPAGNA

Meet at “Macedonia” Airport at 7:30 a.m., check-in, and flight to the Eternal City. As soon as we arrive, our guide will be waiting for us to board the bus and head into the city, providing us with the first essential information. Without wasting any time, we’ll immediately begin our walking tour at the largest Roman amphitheater, the famous Colosseum, which you are welcome to visit inside on your own if you wish. Passing through the Roman Forum, we’ll head to Piazza Venezia, the center of Rome—point 0—with its imposing Monument to the Unification of Italy. Next is one of the most beautiful and charming sights in Rome, the Pantheon, a 2,000-year-old temple dedicated to all the gods, so well-preserved that it is still considered one of the most important architectural buildings in the Western world. Next, we’ll visit the Palazzo Montecitorio, also known as the Roman Parliament, where the original Column of Hadrian is located. Next up is the Trevi Fountain, which you’ve surely seen in photos and will, of course, take pictures of yourself. Be careful: if you toss a coin into its waters, you’re sure to return one day to the “Eternal City.” Our tour will conclude at Piazza di Spagna, or the Spanish Steps, one of Rome’s most famous squares, one of the most popular meeting spots and an area home to the world’s most famous fashion houses. Now it’s time to head to the hotel and settle into our rooms. As the afternoon light begins to fade, you can explore the Eternal City to discover the authentic side of the Italian capital. Don’t hesitate to ask your local friend for tips! So, starting from Piazza Navona—which is filled with restaurants and street artists—you’ll admire the three fountains, the most impressive of which is Bernini’s famous Fountain of the Four Rivers. Next, you can stroll through the Campo de’ Fiori area, which will captivate you with its liveliness, vibrant colors, and picturesque alleys. After crossing the Tiber, you’ll arrive at the Church of Santa Maria, in the heart of the Trastevere district, one of Rome’s most picturesque and cosmopolitan neighborhoods. Here, we recommend enjoying an authentic Italian dinner or a drink along the riverbank. The time is all yours; you can return on your own whenever you like.

DAY 2FREE DAY / DAY TRIP TO FLORENCE (optional excursion)

Today you can spend your time in the Eternal City however you like, enjoying Rome’s unique summer atmosphere. Alternatively, we suggest you join us on an optional day trip by train or bus to a city that needs no introduction: the city of the Medici and the Renaissance, Florence. Florence is a true city-museum, filled with paintings, frescoes, and sculptures from the richest and most productive period art and culture have ever known. During our tour, we will visit the Church of the Holy Cross, Santa Croce, one of the city’s most impressive churches and the burial place of more than 270 distinguished Florentines, including Galileo, Michelangelo, and Machiavelli. Next, we’ll admire the famous Ponte Vecchio, with its distinctive houses and jewelry shops that seem to float above the Arno River — one of Florence’s most iconic sights. In Piazza della Signoria, we’ll see the Palazzo Vecchio, the seat of local government for about seven hundred years, which today houses important sculptures. Our tour continues to Piazza San Giovanni, home to the third-largest cathedral in Europe, Santa Maria del Fiore, with Brunelleschi’s imposing dome, a symbol and hallmark of the city. Afterward, you’ll have free time to stroll, enjoy a refreshing gelato, and shop at the traditional San Lorenzo market. Late in the afternoon, we return to Rome.

DAY 3VATICAN MUSEUMS - ST. PETER'S BASILICA - CASTEL SANT'ANGELO - PIAZZA DEL POPOLO - TIVOLI

After breakfast at the hotel, we head to the independent state of Vatican City for a unique guided tour. The Vatican Museums, which need no introduction, are a complex of some of the world’s leading museums. They house exhibits from the Roman Catholic Church’s vast, centuries-old collection, including famous statues from the ancient world and Renaissance masterpieces. On our tour, we will admire countless unique treasures, such as the Gallery of Candlesticks, the Tapestries, the Maps, the rooms decorated by Raphael, and we will end at the Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo’s frescoes, one of the greatest masterpieces of world painting. Afterward, there will be time for those who wish to visit the largest church in Christendom, St. Peter’s Basilica, built over the burial site of the Apostle Peter, which houses Michelangelo’s famous “Pieta.” This is followed by free time in the historic center, during which you can enjoy a stroll through Piazza del Popolo, as well as the impressive Castel Sant’Angelo (Castle of the Angels). This iconic fortress, originally built as the mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian, towers over the Tiber and is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. At its summit stands the statue of the Archangel Michael, offering one of the most beautiful panoramic views of Rome under the summer sky. In the afternoon, you are free to continue your tour, discovering the charming corners of the Eternal City. For those who choose to do so, there is the option to join an optional excursion to the enchanting city of Tivoli. This is the most famous resort of the Roman aristocracy, a lush green oasis offering a refreshing respite. There, you’ll be enchanted by Villa d’Este, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that looks like something out of a fairy tale. You’ll explore its multi-level Renaissance gardens, where the sound of hundreds of impressive fountains and waterfalls creates an atmosphere of serenity and luxury. It is the ideal setting to relax, take the most beautiful photos of your trip, and experience the glamour of the Italian countryside, before we return to the hotel in the late afternoon.

DAY 4ROME - PIAZZA NAVONA - TOUR (BAROQUE ART IN ROME) - RETURN FLIGHT

Our last day in the “Eternal City,” though that doesn’t mean our experiences are over. After breakfast at the hotel, we make the most of our time with another special guided tour, dedicated to the art of the Baroque, which was born and developed in Rome. Its leading representatives were Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini. The two great artists initially worked together at St. Peter’s Basilica and the Palazzo Barberini. However, intense professional rivalry, their differing personalities, and conflicts in their artistic philosophies soon led to a deep rift, turning them into timeless rivals. During our tour, starting from Piazza Navona, we follow in their footsteps on a leisurely walk of about two kilometers, admiring some of their most important works, such as the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi, as well as major Roman Catholic churches, including Sant’Agnese in Agone, San Agostino, Santa Maria sopra Minerva, Sant’Ignazio di Loyola, and San Luigi dei Francesi. Afterward, we’ll have free time for one last stroll through the Eternal City—an opportunity to wander through the picturesque alleys, lose ourselves in Rome’s unique atmosphere, and enjoy an authentic Italian coffee or a refreshing gelato in a historic square. Those who wish can make one last stop for shopping, searching for unique souvenirs or elegant Italian gifts for their loved ones. A lovely way to enjoy the cool air is to take a walk in Villa Borghese, an 800-acre park in the heart of Rome, artfully landscaped with lakes, fountains, and ancient trees. Its busiest section, the Pincio Hill, is adorned with hundreds of busts of illustrious Italians. After a lovely stroll through the park, stop at Piazza Napoleone for a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city, where the domes of the churches blend harmoniously with the skyline. From there, you can walk down to Piazza del Popolo or continue on to Trinità dei Monti, where the historic Casina Valadier stands atop the hill. Finally, we’ll board the bus bound for the airport and our return flight.
